Default PT vs. Waves? Anyone else have problems?

Hi:

Like so many others, I was thrilled to get the notification about Waves, so I downloaded the AAX2 shell, and also the latest version of WaveShell and installed them both.

And lo and behold, PT 11.0.1 and 10.3.7 were completely nonfunctional. When I went to open either version, the splash screen showed up and absolutely nothing else. No "Initializing hardware," no "Scanning plugins," nothing. I had to to the cmd-opt-esc thing to force quit.

Both versions were working fine yesterday.

I moved both WaveShell (AAX and DAE) out of their folders and tried to launch PT 10 and 11, and still absolutely nothing.

I did the only other thing I could think of, which was to uninstall and reinstall 10, and reinstall 11 from my downloaded .dmg.

After the restart, both versions opened, scanned plugins, and worked normally.

Did this happen to anyone else? Both REAPER and Logic and Peak Pro worked with the current version of Waves, though Logic did took its usual long time to scan all the AUs, and Peak Pro continued its annoying habit of not showing the Waves GUI when a plugin is instantiated.

I'm glad everything is back where it should be, but still a little surprised at the hassle it was.

Cheers,

GT

My last experience with Waves involved the Eddie Kramer Drum Channel, which would have been a bargain at $50 if it would have worked, but it didn't. Insert it on the drum buss, instant computer lockup. Their solution was to disable 2 of my 3 monitors because their plugin wasn't liking my Matrox video card. Great, except every other plugin, cheap ones inclusive, worked just fine, and I'm not disabling my 3-monitor setup for one lousy plugin. At least they gave me my money back when I surrendered the license. Looks like you finally got yours to work. I wasn't so fortunate, but I've lived just fine for years without ANY Waves plugins.

I remember back when if you were using an IBM "clone" as compared to a true IBM system, you could almost set your watch by the fact that something could and would go wrong, normally in the printing process.

With PT, I've had a lot of good luck with stable systems once I moved from 7 LE to 8 LE. All of the various versions of 8, 9, 10, and 11 have in general behaved very well for me, minus the occasional hiccup.

And I've had Waves for some years, moving from Silver to Gold to Platinum to Diamond, as well as quite a few singles, and really have never had any problems — except that sometimes a new version of Waves will totally crash Finale 2011, of all things (which didn't happen this time, which I'm grateful for, because the fix for that is mind-numbingly repetitive, involving around an hour of my time, and which I didn't need tonight on top of the PT insult).

Anyway, I'm glad that the fix wasn't a huge crisis, and I'd still be very curious to hear if anyone else had any weirdness.

It was almost anticlimactic. Drug the waves AAX icon to the folder, pulled up a PT 11 song done with Waves in 10, and there the plugs were - humming along as it it was still 10!

Yep, I've gone through the same thing With Waves. They still haven't learned how to successfully write code for multiple monitors and multiple video cards. They are unfortunately stuck way in the past on this front.

I am so excited that Waves is AAX now.

NOW I CAN FINALLY jump forward. Been waiting for this to renew my WUP

Can't wait to run 11 ..... But I HEAVILY rely on my platinum bundle and L3 Multi's

Just been my workflow since 2003, so I love em.

I agree, they have had weird graphics issues - I seem to remember needing to update video drivers when Waves 7 released...... Crazy

Also - Waves Tune always seems glitchy to me even on my brand new mac pro (3.2 QX 32GB RAM 5770)

Anyway, looking forward to PT11 and Waves AAX :)

Interesting. I really wonder what may have happened that gacked both versions of PT.

Oh well, the important thing is that uninstall/reinstall/restart fixed it, and as Nigel Tufnel once said:

"It was really one of those things... it was... you know... the authorities said... you know... well best leave it unsolved, really...you know.
