Except that it has been fairly widely acknowledged that the HD native sounds significantly better with its 64 bit floating point summing than the HD's 48bit fixed mixer.

Having done a listening shoot out I can say that it is a VERY noticeable difference.... most apparent when you have less than perfect gain staging between plug ins or on Aux buses. While it's not the best engineering technique, The native summing is much more forgiving.

Having used my 6 card HD rig for about 10 years I NEVER thought I'd be working on a Native system.

But now my TDM cards are sitting in a pile and the native card is rocking my main rig.

The one place the TDM rig would still be better is the latency on tracking. But since I'm not doing any tracking here...that isnt an issue for me.

Sound Your Best and Save Big

If you’re currently using a Pro Tools|HD Accel system and/or legacy (“blue”) Pro Tools|HD interfaces, we want to give you the opportunity to get better sound and performance—at substantial savings. Just trade in your old gear towards a Pro Tools|HDX system and/or your choice of Pro Tools HD Series interfaces, and you can sound your best now—contact your Avid reseller for details.

We also want to let you know that Pro Tools HD 10 will be the last feature release to support Pro Tools|HD Accel systems and legacy Pro Tools|HD interfaces. Rest assured, we will continue to support your hardware through software maintenance updates for the next three years, and offer hardware repair and phone support for the next five years.

Hes right actually,my old 888/24 Mix farm and the HD1/96 I/O are bullet proof compared to the LE stuff Ive dealt with,I have my PT 8.1.1. system running on windows 7 in XP mode and it is rock solid...pro tools is a far better experience all around in the Pro setups !! but Do I need a native system when my system is what Pro records have been recorded with for the past 5 or so years????Nope ,not to me,just going to resist the new gear jones and get off that horse...besides with digital downloads being the norm.does your Lady Gaga MP3 need OMNI?????

I just got on ebay.

96 i/o HD1 PCI and PTHD9 $1550

even if the system is older but I will have a stable system for at least 2 years, while PT64 comes out.

Doesn't AVID take trade in's (when upgrading to new hardware) on these cards when the time is right to upgrade?
