I've seen a bunch of posts from people relatively new to Mac OS. There are tons of shortcut tricks and features to do with the Mac OS and if you get a handle on a few of them, you'll be whizzing through like nothin- Check out http://www.silentway.com/tips/mactips.html
This is not a spamming thing- you can receive regular Mac Tips newsletter by sending an email to addmac@silentway.com. and stop getting it if you want by sending an email to removemac@silentway.com. Here's a short little thing of my own: make a folder on desktop (command N). Name the folder appropriately. Put aliases of your apps in it (to make an alias just select the app icon and hit command M). Adjust the sizing of the folder if you want. Then put the folder all the way at the very bottom of the screen (as far as possible), open it, and go to view menu and select pop-up menu. Select also to view the icons as buttons. You can do this for a bunch of categories and have quick access to apps without cluttering the desk top. Later! |

Or just use the launcher, and hide it when not in use.
Thanks for the website tip!!!! |

You can also use the apple menu and the PPP menu (if you have one) to put all your apps in the menu at the top of your screen, with the rest of the OS menus.
That leaves your desktop uncluttered, and you can open any application or document even when the desktop is hidden by a browser window or something. |

For a very elegant way to organize the Apple Menu (I use it), pick up Robin Williams' (no, not that one) The Little Mac Book. Everything at your fingertops.

Im curious cayugalad, whats the elegant way to organize the apple menu?
I use app-aliases in categories-folders i A-menu myself, and documents in popupmenus (the folders on HD top level of course). The desktop is used for downloading files (easy access and visibility. Cayugalad?

I use FinderPop about a hundred times a day, particularly the "SwitchToFinder/HideOthers" command. Nice if you work in a lot of applications at the same time.
FinderPop also lets you add items such as an alias to frequently used apps, and you can set it up to access by clicking anywhere in the menu bar, rather than going to the apple menu. saves a bit of mouse movement. Access to Contextual Menus without holding down the Control key is another plus, although you can set up a 2-button mouse to do the same thing with the right-click button. The price is right, too. Pintware, available at www.finderpop.com It's not something I have active in my Pro Tools extension set, nor would I recommend using it with Pro Tools.

Launcher!?!?!
THats the first thing I trash on a new system. To each his own. I have a Row of oft used app's alias on the very bottom of my screen. There always in view to launch any of the 15 apps I have there. Im also a bif fan of clearing out all the crap in the apple menu. Im shocked everytime I see dudes with Stickies, Scrapbook, Sherlock, etc.. still in the menu. IF you dont use "apple-F" to find stuff, then you are missing the very point of a mac. ALso Quickeyes is the best money ever spent on a MAC. |
