Default New Imacs

Hi Imacs users

Many of us have issues with pro tools and m-audio interfaces. Apple just released a fresh new I mac with only one FW800 port. Do anyone knows if it's better quality than the actual Imac's FW architecture ?

As a long time Mac user and fan I was very confused to see Apple taking a more consumer approach to computing. The Lack of 2 FW ports on almost all new mac is very confusing to me. For instance a MacBook pro or Imac used to be a valid format for multimedia production but now the inability to connect a FW interface and FW drive to record with is rendering all but the Mac Pro Tower as useless for production.
As for the Quality of the connection check the specs on apple's website.

Dont know if that helped but I also am confused by this

iMac FW > Ext FW HD > FW Audio Interface.

The iMacs/MacBooks that had 2 FW ports shared the same FW bus. Thus it is identical to using the method I outlined above. :)

I a new iMac within the last 6 months and use it with the Project Mix I/O without any trouble. iMac > LaCie HD > PMI/O

Works better with more consistency than my iMac G5 did.

I'm still running one of the last FW400/FW800 port iMacs and am dabbling with going for the current upgrade. paulmitch, are you running the Lacie as a fw800 drive into the iMac and the PM I/O into the fw400 port of the Lacie? Just trying to figure out the cabling.

On my imac this chain seems to work better

Imac FW800 > Profire2626 > Glyph QT5050

But still have 6101 errors and unstable Pro Fire

If anybody buy the new imac it will be cool to have some feedback. There is not so much information about the chip used in the FW connection.
