Default Bounced audio's volume different than in the session

Hi again, after some alienation from reality!

Ok, an amateur issue, whilst not being one 😇

This is a problem that comes and goes. I have never put any bigger focus on it, but right now it's a bit bothering.

When I bounce something from the session and then import it back, it has a different volume than the source in the session.
I have nothing on the Master, except that it's -18db right now.

Unless it's a an absolute coincidence, it appears that increasing the imported audios volume with exactly +18db does the trick and by ear it seams to be the very same as the source track's volume.

Questions:
- So, is this an expected dependency?
- And if so, then why doesn't Pro Tools create the bounced file with the volume the source has? What's the point?
- Is there a way to avoid this "reduction"/"adaption"?

Thanx and regards!
/DV

If you mean a Master Fader is at -18 then there's your problem. If it's assigned to your bounce source.

Sounds like you're using the Master to lower the volume in your monitors? I would start by separating your monitoring path and the main bus you're bouncing. If that is the issue.

What *exact* source are you bouncing? It's the level there you have to worry about.

Thanx for the replies!

Yes, I have -18dB on the master fader for this production, because it serves the workflow. No, it's not for lowering the volume of my monitors

But I get it now 😁 Sorry for being retarded. This is one of these self-evident things that are so obvious that one misses to see them.

So, the self-explanatory:
If something is being bounced with -18dB on master fader, then after importing it back into the session, those properties are imbedded in the audio file (of course). An as the master fader still has that -18dB assigned in the session, it results in ADDING of additional -18db... My god...

Yeah think of it this way. Master Faders control the OUTPUT level of a bus. It's the final step before the output of that bus. So whatever that shows is the level that gets bounced.

You could bus all your tracks to a PRINT track, and bounce from there, preceding the master fader.
