I would like to upgrade from PT 8.0.5 (Digi 002R Interface) to PT 10.3.X (latest version). I am concerned about the compatibility of PT 10.3.X with my iMac. It is a Model 9.1, 2.66 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Intel Core Duo. Anyone running this setup? If so, have their been any issues? If I don't have to buy a new quad core i5 I would rather not just yet. Thanks in advance for any insight you may be able to provide.

For PT 10.3.5 you're going to need a minimum of OSX 10.6.7 and if you plan on going to PT11 you're going to need OSX 10.8.3 although 10.8.2 might work as well. And your 002R won't work in PT11. Just a couple of things to keep in mind.
Also if you do end up getting a new iMac get the 27" with the i7 processor in it. You'll be able to add your own memory and it has two Thunderbolt ports along with 4 USB3 ports. |

Thanks for the reply. So can I assume that my intel core duo iMac will handle PT 10.3.5? I am running OSX 10.6.8 currently. I am not planning on going to PT 11 for a while. I want to get to PT 10 and sit there for a while. Having to purchase a new iMac and a new interface would strap me right now. I have no reason to jump right into PT11. PT will do fine for me for a while.

I could give a boy a fish one time or teach him to catch one himself several times. I choose to do the latter.
So... Read the compatibility documents (@avid.com), all you need to know is right there.

Performance wise, I didn't feel any difference in DSP usage between 8, 9 or 10 so if your happy with 8's performance and your iMac is compatible I don't see why not.

If you really are staying with your current system make sure you have a separate hard drive for PT to record to and that it's at least 7200 rpm and not a green drive. Also make sure you've done every optimization possible for Macs (like turning off Spotlight, etc.). |

Thanks for the feedback everyone. @JFReak, moderator, I have looked at all the compatibility documents I could find and got conflicting information about the intel core duo iMac. That is why I am asking the question here. If I somehow missed the documentation that covers my specific question, I apologize.

Torchlight, PT10 will absolutely run great on your computer. I ran PT10 on 2007 Imac older than yours and it ran perfectly.

The 11 Rack deal is awesome. If he did that he could sell the 002r for about 200-300 and come out on top versus the upgrade and not have to worry about PT 11 and compatibility!
