Feature film facility
Hello,
Apologies if this is not posted in the right place. I am a London based sound designer / dubbing mixer, currently working at the BBC Studios and Postproduction. I’ve been involved in re-recording / dubbing mixing of projects like Dr. Who, Sherlok and Spooks. I also know Protools inside out (well, more or less!) Next September I’m going back to uni to do my masters in sound track production for film and TV. Between now and then I’ trying to get some experience working in facilities who are focused on feature films or do original material (not dubbing) as this is what I would want to get in to after finishing my masters. The reason I’m doing this is to get to know work environment and workflow of such facilities as I know it would be different to how we do things at the BBC. So, I’m asking if anyone here would want to offer me one day a week internship / paid job? Or any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Sep |

Re: Feature film facility
ring DeLane Lea / Pinewood/ Twickenham Film Studios / Molinare and ask
Google is your friend, I suspect you are unlikely to get job offers here! Post is a relationship business - my advice is get out and develop some. Join the IPS, try and get BAFTA or AMPS membership. good luck ps my advice (in the nicest possible way) is that your time is better spent joining these societies than studying this subject at university. How many Andy Nelson's have an MSc in Post Production?....... If you want to be in film get out of the BBC and get a job in a film environment. pps I am not anti education (I have a BSc) - but I am a realist

Re: Feature film facility
Interesting Sep. I see that you've been involved with Doctor Who and Sherlock. In what capacity exactly? Its weird that we didn't see you during the mixes on these shows.
I'll keep my eyes peeled next time Paul McFadden Sound Editor/Mixer Doctor Who/Sherlock www.bangpostproduction.com |

Re: Feature film facility
Ooops!
I think some newbies just don't realize that this forum is a serious place with serious folks around. Thus the situation for Sep - the first post = the last post... And I DO believe now that you work at BBC of course.

Re: Feature film facility
Well technically, if he made a cup of tea for scheduler in charge of post (couldn't think of anything else;-) ), he could say he was involved... He didn't exactly say he mixed an episode.
I'm not in a position to hire people, but I would always base my decision on other things than projects mentioned in a resume. And I hate showreels, it doesn't tell you anything. Some of my best work sounds average at best, but you should have heard what came out of the editsuite! Straightfaced lying is another thing |

Re: Feature film facility
Maybe he mixed a trailer or something. I'm sure Nigel at Hackenbacker (who is a friend of mine) who mixes Spooks would also have something to say. We work damn hard to gain our reputations in the industry , only for people like Sep to hijack it.
And by the way it's "Sherlock" nor "Sherlok" Thanks for the nice comments Mike. Another pro who works hard to build his reputation for quality work. Rant over!! Paul |

Re: Feature film facility
Words fail me
I had my doubts about the authenticity of the OP's claims when I first saw the thread. p.s - Amazing work on Sherlock TAFF, only caught the last ep but that was enough... |
