I have a dedicated machine running HD Native with an Omni, 192 Digital and an expansion chassis and my machine runs great (Mac Mini).

Loving 12.8.3!

I can see most guys are loving 12.8.3. That's great! We seem to be getting somewhere finally. Unfortunately I'm on Windows...I guess I'll have to wait a while and see how things develop.

Been using it with HDX/macpro 12core 10.12.6 for a few days.

Seems pretty good. Feels better on graphics side than pt 12.8.0, which I was using before.

I mostly do audio only. very little midi. Use other programs for that.

Being a lazy person, I installed over my old system. No worries so far.

Easy enough to roll back with time machine if I need to.

Considerably smoother. Whatever they've done it's worked.

They've also fixed the biggest annoyance in my sound design workflow, which is searching in the workspace. Previously you'd search for a SFX and it would search indefinitely until you click the stop button, ramping CPU usage up to 150% and making my laptop fans kick in, which is no good. Even if you did stop the search it would start up again when hitting spacebar in your Main Edit Window. Drag SFX into Main Edit window, Workspace moves to background, Option J to show workspace, find the X and hit stop search, Shift Opt J to hide again. Too many steps especially when layering or experimenting.

Now I can search and it finds the files and immediately stops. No more irritating fans and waisted cpu cycles.

Keep it up Avid this is good

Installed 12.8.3 before the holidays, but I'm just starting to use it. Having a major problem with it crashing if I unfreeze a instrument track with Keyscape. Happening in on multiple sessions. I need to edit some key tracks from a project I tracked in 12.8 but if I unfreeze them its an instant crash. So far it seems to be only tracks with keyscape that are heaving this issue. I've tried the usual importing in to a new session, but it still crash's. Anybody else able to test this?

edit: actually just opening any Spectrasonics plugs, is causing PT to immediately crash. This is in a new session.

I’m running 10.8.3 HD Native on a Mac Pro trashcan with a fresh High Sierra install without issues at this moment. Which wasn't immediately the case.

Lots of crashes at first for instance when transferring tracks into Melodyne.

One very important aspect – especially if you also go to a new os – is to make sure all your plugins are up to date and of course compatible. I'm normally pretty meticulous about this but a bit too much Christmas ‘spirit’ and New Year's champagne must have made me sloppy

Seemed it wasn’t melodyne that gave me the problems but I had forgotten to update Slate Digital's VMR and the Oxford plugins which were inserted after Melodyne in the plugin chain.

The problem is that keeping your plugins up-to-date is a bit of an undertaking. Especially when you have (too) many plugins. Still a lot of developers don't notify you of an update release. They ofcourse mail you with a big upgrade that they want to sell but not for every smaller update that only contains bug fixes. Many developers have released a software manager which is a great help but lots of others still haven't. So you regularly have to schedule a visit to their website to log in and see whether there's an update.

I'll use this opportunity to call out for more software managing utilities. Steven, Oxford, are you reading this

Default How good is PT 12.8.3?

I’m using Melodyne, Slate VMR and Keyscape here with 12.8.3 without any problem, not a single crash.
BTW, I’m on Sierra 10.12.6.

Happy new year!

I reinstalled all the Spectrasonics plugs this morning, and so far it's all good again. Otherwise, 12.8.3 seems to be a nice update.
