Default Waves L2....alternatives?

Anyone here found a viable and cost effective replacement for using the L2 plugin from Waves?

Our facility is a licensed waves Platinum user (native)

When we went HD-Accell about a year ago - waves offered no upgrade path the the TDM version of their package.

After spending around 3K on various upgrades from gold and another smaller collection, we made the decision that we weren't going to spend another 3-4K with these folks.

At the time I researched 2 other options:
Digidesigns plug: Maxim - same concept as L2 - brikwall limiting, dithering, noise shaping

Sony Inflator: again the same concept
download demos and compare for yourself.

Interesting note: TC has debuted their new mastering plugs for the PowerCore units - I'm hearing great things about them, some say way better than the X3 plug!

Good Luck,
Mike

Same here, I refuse to pay for another upgrade, these Waves guys are crazy.
I spend thousands for their upgrades during the years.

Thanks guys. I agree with the ridiculous pricing of Waves plugins. Is Power core a hardware thing or is it plugs for TDM?

I am wondering the same thing too.
I will either go with the L3 which is stand alone about $1,200.
Or the McDsp Channel G which is about $1k.
Maybe a demo of each to A/B will help except I'll probably want both!

There is a new Limiter from UA.
I wonder if we will get it as a TDM version soon.

Cheers Wolfgang

I confronted this issue last year because L2 wasn't iLok-able at the time (I work on different systems and need the portability).

After demoing Oxford Inflator, I decided to give it a shot. It is close to L2, but after a year of using it, I have to say that it just isn't as good. L2 is simply amazing. It is just SOOOOO transparent. I'm thinking of going back to it, now that it works with iLok.

My opinion is that Maxim is quite similar to Inflator. It introduces harmonica distortion or general harshness much more quickly than L2.

Waves L3 Plug-In is a kickass digital limiter. The multiband version is probably the best of it's kind.
