Nope. Funny, 'cause I've been watching this thread. And waiting...

I'm using a Dual 1.42 G4 with 4 HD cards. I'm led to believe that if it runs on a PPC G5 it will run on our 'vintage' macs.
Has anyone had success doing so?

Kind regards

Yes I'm braving it (while keeping my Tiger system going on another drive!)
Unfortunately I went away on holiday on 20th Dec hours after installing PT8 and only just got back. Initial impression is that graphic tasks are rather slow - dragging tracks around, scrolling up and down the edit screen etc., butTDM audio and RTAS working just as well as previously.

Oddly, the new Digi Hammond Organ instrument is rather more CPU intensive than NI B4II - about twice as much usage on the meter.

Cool please let us all know how you get on.

I just got a call from a friend of mine whose running an even lower spec system than a dual 1.25. He's like you only just done it and hasn't given it a full workout, but is going to do so soon and let us all know how it goes.

Lets hope it's good news, I'm trying to keep my G4 going till whatever HDII turns out to be comes out.

I don't want a chasis and I don't want to crossgrade to similar PCIe cards and my last resort is buying a second hand dual 2.5 G5 PPC which is lets face it just a temporary stop gap anyway. I'm sure you're all in a similar boat. Let's keep those fingers crossed!

Also a big thanks to the brave guys trying it out first!

Did a couple more hours this morning just prepping a mix and re-amping a bass, and the slowness of the graphics is a bit of a nuisance. But of course this has been creeping up with every update of PT and OSX. And difficult to judge objectively while still just trying to get used to the new colours and layout! I suspect an increased heart rate will ensue from the longer times spent waiting for screen redraws and scrolling...
But you're right, I don't want to lose my fourth PCI slot or spend loads on a new mac AND an expansion unit AND a card crossgrade for fairly small gains in processing.

Hi there
I've just installed PT8 on my 'vintage' G4 DP1.42. No problems!

Well as I've got more into a fully fledged mix I've found things to be a bit hard work. It's all down to the slowness of the graphics - scrolling the screen, zooming, etc. all takes about twice as long to get a reaction.

Monday morning I'm planning to order the Mac Pro and Magma...
