Default Best Mac OS X for PT11

Just picked up an older plastic Macbook for a song and figured it could come in handy as an extra/utility machine for mobile editing, 1-2 track overdub recording, etc.
It's a Mid 2009 (2.13 Intel C2D) I paid $90 for in good shape. Put in an extra SSD I already had and maxed the RAM (4gigs) and it's a snappy little unit (currently running El Capitan.)

I don't have any plans to update to PT 12 (or beyond) anytime soon, so I just want to put the quickest/most stable version of the operating system for version 11.
My options seem to be 10.8, 10.9 or 10.10 to have a 'supported' system. Thoughts?

10.8.5, all day.

I have that same laptop, I got mine for $200...(I thought I got a deal!!)

I did the same thing, upgrade ram and put in a SSD

Decent machine - will use it for live recording off the studiolive mixer

OSX 10.9.5 has been stable for me; ditto for OSX 10.8.5. Yosemite was a disaster of instability.

I'm in a similar boat with PT 11. I'm having a hard time staying on 10.8.5 and not updating. I do have access to 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11. Looking at my system, should I still stay with ML?

Thank you,

Unless you have some reason for updating - I wouldn't. If you do update first clone your system drive off to another drive that way you can go back. Or pop in a new system drive and load the new OSX version onto that. Third possibility is if your system drive is big enough to partition it with Disk Utility and have multiple boot partitions. I used to have 3 boot partitions but am down to 2 - OSX 10.8.5 and OSX 10.9.5. PT11.3.1 was too squirrelly with Yosemite I deleted that partition.

My 1TB system drive has 750GB remaining. I've always been a bit hesitant to partition thinking I would screw it up somehow. But I know it's not a big deal. Would I just split the drive in half? Any difference between 10.8 and 10.9 for PT11? Thanks!

Partitioning a drive is easy using OSX disk utility. There's not much you can do to screw it up. You've got enough room to split it into two partitions and as long as you don't make the initial partition you have smaller than the amount of disk being used (I don't think disk utility would even let you do that) then you're okay.

PT11.3.1 work fine in either OSX 10.8.5 or OSX 10.9.5 for me. What can be a tipping is if an audio interface needs OSX 10.9.5 or later; the latest Apogee and UAD interfaces are that way.
