Default Cannot create new file because that file already exists

Anyone ever receive this error message? I get it with one of my tracks in the project, not any others. I get it when trying to record to that track, or (after moving a region from another track to the problematic track) while trying to do fades on the track.

Quite weird.

Not weird at all. You can only use one particular file name per session. It's basic organization.

That can happen under certain unusual circumstances in any DAW. Usually due to making a filename change while an operation is in process on that file, or undoing something before it's done doing something else to a file, stuff like that. Those rare events when the user is faster than the computer.

It may work to just rename the track. But the best idea is probably to make a new session and import all the data from that one into it, using copy. That will force it to freshly rename everything, from the system's point of view.

It's definitely not just a track naming problem, I've seen that before and this is totally different. I've tried little things like that to remedy the problem but to no avail.

Also, when I record, Pro Tools is creating a new Audio Files folder, in a different location than where the session folder lives, and recording to that new folder.

Anyone heard of that before?

Yes, I've had that. That session is messed up. I wouldn't do anything more in it. Import all to a new session, making sure to use Copy, not Link. Move the original session to a different drive, then delete it from the original drive, then open the new session and make sure it's all there before finally trashing the original. All that makes sure you don't accidentally throw away something you need.

Yes. The only version of Pro Tools that is supported for use in Windows 7 is 8.0.4.

You need to upgrade to version 8 ($150 at store.avid.com), then upgrade to version 8.0.4.

Also, why did you dig up a completely un-related old thread instead of just posting a new one?
