New 8th Gen i7 with NVMe m.2 SSD
I don’t know about the Z370 from personal experience (I have the X99) but the NVME drives are amazing with PT
I am running the Samsung SM951

Just be aware the WD Black NVME doesn't get a lot of love at Tom's Hardware.

Yeah that is worth mentioning, not all NVME drives are created equal

Re: New 8th Gen i7 with NVMe m.2 SSD
Pro Tools runs well with Coffee Lake.
The only m.2 nvme drive you should want to use is a Samsung Evo or Pro M.2 Motherboard Asrock or Asus. Gigabyte is good, but they definitely fall behind on their firmware support. 1. Because their speeds are almost on par with what is advertised. 2. Because Samsung regularly issues firmware updates on their M.2s 3. Because of compatibility 4. Because Samsung has their own nvme drivers. the Z370 platform isn't a bad platform at all for pro tools. right now intel is in all sorts of deep... with the whole spectre/ meltdown performance fiasco. With Ryzen2 a month away and Threadripper performance out of this world. By the way, in my opinion, Pro Tools runs more reliably with Hyperthreading disabled. Re: New 8th Gen i7 with NVMe m.2 SSD
Just be careful an M.2 drive is actually a PCIe/NVMe SSD, the Samsung 960 Evo is for example, the 850 Evo and 860 Evo are only SATA. Huge difference in performance...

Re: New 8th Gen i7 with NVMe m.2 SSD
Correct. The 850 / 860 evo m.2 is SATA
and 950/ 960 EVO / pro is nvme. |

Re: New 8th Gen i7 with NVMe m.2 SSD
The Build is done all I need is the TI firewire Card UAD Compatible should get it in 5 to 10 days
The machine is Crazy fast not 1 single problem on install still time will tell with pro tool It`s funny the bad comment I got about Gigabyte and pushing Asrock and asus when everyone else in all the forum said to stay away from asus and stick with Gigabyte, I`m a asus fan myself but I know that gigabyte is a good brand ... on the other hand Asrock ... LOL Don`t know how fast is the other NVMe SSD but the WD look ok for now and I don`t realy care about sofware that come free with Hard Drive most of the time they are crap or basic version I allready have a full version of EZtodobackup so I`m good. see pic of speed test that would be cool if someone can post there spec and pic |
