Default Digi Synth Advice please....

Hey Everyone,

I have a choice of getting one of the Digidesign Synths, either...

Velvet, Transfuser or Hybrid and wanted to know your thoughts and experiences with them.

I was thinking that Velvet would probably be my best bet since I really don't do electronic music, which it seemed like Hybrid and Transfuser is mostly for.

I heard that Velvet comes with over 100 presets. I thought there were only a few Rhodes keyboards & Electric Pianos.

Then, what are all the presets?

Hybrid looks pretty good but, it's mostly for electronic music, right?

And.... Transfuser looks cool too, but thats mostly for drums, right?

Any thought, very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Velvet = Electric Pianos.. That's all. The presets are variations on that theme

Hybrid = Analog synth (plus it goes a little beyond that with some wave-tables). It sounds great.. Not just for electronic music. Analog synth in my world means Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Pink Floyd, etc

Transfuser = Well... It's a little tough to summarize.. I had the demo, but it didn't really fit the type of music I'm interested in. To try to wrap it up, I'd say it is a looping instrument with many options, including drums and sampling, and synths.. YMMV

Thanks Flommer.... appreciate it!

I'll eliminate the Transfuser and choose between Velvet or Hybrid.

I guess I'm kinda of leaning towards Velvet even thought it's just those few keyboard emulations.

Although, I heard they sound great.

Just import your MIDI files into a track and set their output to an instance of Velvet.

Just before you buy it, you do know that Velvet is a very specific "emulation" sort of VI, right?
Its just the Suitcase, MkI and MkII Rhodes, plus a Wurly

Yes, Smithcok. Thanks.

I wish it were more, but I guess it will have to do.

I have a choice of either of the three that I've mentioned through an M-Audio promotion.

Just a thought-

You might want to have a peek at MOTU's Electric Keys.
Nice price, and a world of vintage sounds...Electric pianos, organs, Mellotrons, oddball analog string machines, etc.

I would Russ, except it was not one of the synth's offered in this program.

It was only a choice of the three I had mentioned.

Well, yes, but two of your three choices are rather single focused.
Velvet is simply a collection of electric pianos. Period.
Transfuser isn't really even a Synth, it's a loop station/groove maker, so it's sort of odd on a "one of three" choice list.

If it's really gotta be one of the three you mentioned, then Hybrid is the choice, as it's the most versitile.
