Default What causes iLok cloud sessions to open?

Almost every time I open the iLok License Manager, I see that my iLok Cloud session is enabled. There are no licenses in the cloud session and I didn't enable it. I always close it out only to find it's often open again the next time I run the iLok License Manager.

Does anyone have any idea what might be enabling this?

Hi James

I'm up-to-date with ILM 5.10.0.4633

I’ve no idea what’s enabling this, but I initially managed to stop it.

Recently noticed not only my (unrequested) Cloud license, but also a ‘Guest Cloud’ in the LH column of ILM

Never used Cloud, but I right-clicked on it to see if I had the option to ‘Close Session’ that I’d previously read about

Right-clicking and selecting the last option ‘Remove … From Your Account’ got rid of them.

Then right-click on iLok and select ‘Synchronize’

Restart computer:
No more Clouds for a couple of days, but when I launched ILM today:
THEY'RE BACK!

No longer did I have the option to remove Cloud from my account - all I was offered was the option to open Cloud Session.
Did this, then closed this completely empty Session.

In ILM ‘File’ > Preferences > Network > Server Admin
I unchecked the Default ‘Allow clients to connect automatically’
Hit ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’
Restart computer
Launch ILM

Still couldn't remove Cloud from my account - it's 'grayed-out' on the LHS of ILM

Deactivated all Licenses to "my Cloud" and set the iLok Cloud to 'Managed Mode'
Restart computer
Launch ILM

Just contacted PACE via https://help.ilok.com/contact_support.html

I have been having this too for years and it drives me nuts! I never enabled iLok cloud (actually I have no idea how to even start it) but it keeps turning itself on and then moves a random amount of licenses there with zero interaction from me. Every now and then when I check I see that random 30-40 licenses are suddenly running on IL cloud that I never put there. It's really annoying. How can you permanently turn IL cloud off? I don't want it and I don't even know how to activate it.

That's a great question. I have never in my life used iLok Cloud yet a few months ago ILM reported I had an open cloud session. Have no idea why or how it happened.

That sounds like iLok cloud "automatic" mode got enabled. A stupid thing to even offer as a setting IMNSHO. No I am not saying you enabled that, I suspect there are bugs here.

I would also love to be able to permanently disable anything iLok cloud related (be right up there with a "never ever install Avid Link setting" :-O).

From iLok.com Technical Support:

"Are you using UA Connect or Avid Link on any of your computers? This software has the ability to automatically open iLok cloud sessions which may be causing the issue you are seeing. Please check the UA Connect settings for this feature and let me know if you are not using any of those programs."

Replied:
I’m on Windows
Just updated UA Connect to v1.4.22.3124
In UAD’s ‘Select License Location’ I always choose ‘my iLok name’ (definitely not ‘iLok Cloud Session’)

Although Pro Tools installs Avid Link, I always remove the Avid Link Folder from C:\Program Files\Avid, as well as uninstalling Avid Link (in Programs & Features), before launching Pro Tools

Please see the other comments in this Thread:
What causes iLok cloud sessions to open?
https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=430986

Any other suggestions gratefully received, because I don’t think either Avid Link or UA Connect are causing my problems

Please ask the Techs to return the option of removing the Cloud and Computer locations from the LHS of iLok License Manager – or at least let me hide them & make them inactive, because I only need to see my iLoks listed
Thank you

Thanks Uncle Jesus.

The installation manager angle is interesting. I think Softube and Antares also have managers integrated with iLok license management.

Face it, nobody needs to use a DAW to actually get audio stuff done. Ya can just sit back and enjoy watching the bloatware messing with other bloatware.

Vendors need to slow down on how hard they are chasing "cloud" or other latest buzzwords and focus on making stuff that works reliably and is withing their companies limited engineering abilities to develop and support. Oh well I can't wait until the arrival of AI powered plugin management and license management tools.

Now you mention it, the thought of “Automatic AI Plug-In Updates & Downloads with Custom Installation Options” sounds like a real time-saver!
Mind you, I’ll keep my physical iLok totally Offline until it’s thoroughly tested & OK’d, but I thoroughly approve of letting AI do all the “boring stuff” – I won’t miss it a bit!

When the time comes, I’ll ask PACE to waiver the Refresh option until “all is sorted” …

https://www.ilok.com/#!zdt-coverage
"If you enable the TLC option, your iLok will need to be seen by our server at least once every 90 days for a Refresh operation. This Refresh enables your licenses to continue working for an additional 90 days. If the iLok is not seen by our server by the end of the Refresh period, the licenses on it"
