Hi,
I have an USB M-Audio Keystation 49 MK3. It's my midi-keyboard for my VI's. It has always worked fine. Now for the first time it doesn't give any sigh of life in Pro Tools 2024. Before it worked just fine w/ the same update. I de-installed it from device manager and re-installed it. Restarted my Windows 11 many times. It shows now fine in MIDI settings in Pro Tools 2024 as it should be. I have many times restarted Pro Tools and the PC, but even showing in PT - I can't make it work w/ my VI's ie. UAD virtual keyboards. I have tried other USB-ports, but nothing. I am confused. What should I do next? Thanks You!

Are you on a record enabled instrument track?
Can you share a screenshot or screen recording of your workflow?

Perhaps a second language issue BUT Your post is unclear as to actual issues. Phrases like "shows ok" or "doesn't give any sign of life" or "I can't make it work" etc are far to generalized Can you use more detail specific technical wording ?
First which of two completely different issues are you having #1 Does "no sign of life" mean you are not getting any signal at all from your keyboard INTO Pro Tools ? OR #2 does "shows ok" mean you are getting signal into PT but not getting any sound OUT ? #1 is likely a USB port , cable, or keyboard driver issue #2 is likely you do not have all the necessary Midi selections made.

If you roll back to Pro Tools 2023.12.1 on Windows 11 Pro, to see M-Audio listed in Pro Tools Peripherals, it may be necessary to also install (just) the Command 8 Driver (without the Command 8) - available here: Download and Run As Administrator: Command8_Driver_Pro_Tools v90_69592 (Windows) download link: https://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppo...0v90_69592.zip For my Pro Tools Ultimate 2023.12.1 (which lets me use my Digidesign Command 8 and my M-Audio Axiom Pro 49), I bought a Third-Party Renew Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual Update + Support Plan, to use when Avid restores the M-Audio Driver option to Pro Tools. For my 2nd laptop: I won't update my Pro Tools Studio Perpetual which ends March 30, 2025, until M-Audio support returns. M-Audio Driver No Longer Available In Pro Tools 2024.3 - Updated | Production Expert https://www.production-expert.com/pr...ro-tools-20243 ... in Pro Tools 2024.3 the M-Audio Keyboard option is missing from the MIDI Controllers tab of the Peripherals window ... ... the legacy M-Audio driver was still used, particularly by the clever control software Mulligan from ReFuse. The removal of this driver means that Mulligan is not compatible with Pro Tools 2024.3. On their website, ReFuse posted the following statement: IMPORTANT: In Pro Tools 2024.3 (released March 7, 2024), the "M-Audio Keyboard" MIDI driver was removed. Mulligan cannot work without this driver. Because of this, Mulligan is compatible only with Pro Tools versions 2023.12.1 and earlier. Compatibility: Mulligan (a specific product) is not compatible with Pro Tools 2024.3. Mulligan is compatible only with Pro Tools versions 2023.12.1 and earlier. Google's AI Overview says: "Avid is working on a new version to work around this issue, but no solution is available at this time." Last edited by unkJE; 03-26-2025 at 08:08 AM. Reason: please return the M-Audio Driver A.S.A.P. |

Hi,
I am on Windows 11 -it's updated correctly. I use an UAD Apollo interface. Pro Tools is 2024.10.1. It has worked and recorded fine until this day. 1) The Keystation 49 MK3 shows like it is in the attachment. 2) All the necessary Midi selections made been made. 3) When I try to record a VI (record enabled on an instrument track) - the VI doesn't give a sign of life. So if I try to play - it won't do a thing. I van play to VI w/ the mouse. 4) I have tried two different USB-cords and four different USB ports. What should I try next? Thank You!

Can you post a Screenshot showing your available choices when you hit the drop-down arrow in Setup>Peripherals and say which you chose?

Thanks for that - please do another Screenshot - I'd like to see what choices you're offered:
Ist column of Peripherals (Type) - first line #1 - hit the drop-down arrow on the RHS of 'none' then hit Print Screen (PrtScn) on your computer keyboard. Use Windows Snipping Tool to capture a close-up - I enlarge my Screenshot in Windows Word, then make a JPEG with the Snipping Tool |

If you wait a tick, I'll post an image.
I want to know if you're seeing the lower image, which doesn't offer M-Audio as a Peripherals choice |

For VIs, pick a basic tutorial video on YouTube about working with VIs and follow the steps there. Good idea to look through several tutorials even if you have used VIs in the past, just to see what you might be missing. Common mistakes are not using an instrument track, not having the instrument track record enabled, not having MIDI Thru selected, not having the correct or "all" MIDI inputs selected for a instrument track. Enable the Instrument panel for the tracks in the Mix or Edit window and start by confirming that MIDI events are getting to the track, (the little "meters" in the Instrument pane will show activity). Check you can play the VI MIDI using the Pro Tools built in MIDI keyboard (which actually sends MIDI into that track, unlike testing inside the VI UI). If this was working before you likely changed something like unchecked MIDI Thru or have not record armed the instrument track, etc. "all the necessary MIDI selections have been made" Tells nobody anything useful about what you have done or might be missing here. What *exactly* have you done. |
