Mac G5 Dual 2.0 PPC, 4 GB DDR SDRAM, MBox 2, OSX 10.5.8, Pro Tools 8.0 LE
Hi all, I am trying to transfer some old sessions created in PT LE 6 to PT 2025 on my newer Mac Mini. The sessions are on a G5 that I had an HD3 system on before having to move away from that computer to upgrade. I have gone back to it to try to get these sessions updated in order to transfer. The problem is that my Mbox 2 (that does power up on a newer laptop) will not power up on the G5. I did an uninstall of PT before I did a clean install from my original discs that came with the MBox 2 of PT LE7 onto the G5. No power to the Mbox 2 but it shows it being connected in the USB devices under the System profile. I updated to LE 8.0 as I read somewhere that updating could potentially rectify some of the issues. I also have the other 8.0 updates but want to se if someone knows what's going on before trying. that. I know the cable works, I know the Mbox 2 works, I've switched USB ports on the G5 and know that they all work. I have Mbox 2 Driver software updates: v9.0_r2, 10.3.3_79050 and 10.3.9_83297 I wanted to find out if anyone knows what the fix is before again, just throwing software on it in hopes of fixing it. Thanks for your input and help. ![]() diffwirld |

The kext aka device driver inside all the Mac installers you list do not support PPC Macs.
I opened up the v9.0_r2 driver installer and it's kext include binary support only for 32-bit and 64-bit Intel, no PPC support. Later ones won't include PPC either. Which is consistent with IIRC Pro Tools abandoning PPC early in the Pro Tools 8.x lifecycle. You likely need to get a PPC compatible driver that I assume was included within older versions of Pro Tools, and then do *not* overwrite that driver with any of these stand alone driver installers. Update!
I got it working. Had to unplug and re-plugin the Mbox 2 and it powered up. Working on files now. |
