Default General Firewire / 002R Question: Hub? Lenght?

I am wondering if anyone has tried to use a digi 002r through a repeater or hub... And how long can the firewire cable be? Is there any loss of preformance with a longer run?

Just wondering...

Pete

wudnt realy want to do it, mainly due to the limitations of the IEEE1394 cabeling standard. if u absolutly must have long FW cables runs look into the IEEE1394 to optical tranducers, have heard they have worked with i think it was mLAN. however they will set you back a bit

I also agree, I highly suggest keeping the 002 directly to the computer. If you need the hub for more firewire devices, just buy another pci ieee1394 card. Probably about the same price, and less problems...

I had looked at the optical solution before. I am wanting to place the CPU of my system in another room (next door) and run all the cables through a junction box that I already have in place. I was able to get a KVM over ethernet product, and now the only thing left is my 002.

Thanks for the info and feedback. Guess I will figure something else out.

Pete

might be helpfull to read up on the official IEEE1394 standard
www.ieee.org

another solution might be to place your 002r next to your computer and run longer balaned audio cables

you could sink the money are are spening on all these junction boxs and KVM over cat5 and FW repeater (or whatever u get) into quiet fans in your pc and stick it next to you
