Thanks for the responses guys. I really want to jump into the Mac world to take advantage of Logic for VIs and use Pro-Tools solely for Audio.

Are there utilities like Acronis True Image on the Mac for cloning drives?

This is the reason I stuck with PCs for so long. The current Lenovo W540 Laptop allows for four drives to be installed internally. You can have up to 4 SSDs installed and the weight of the laptop is about the same as a Macbook. I was entertaining picking up that laptop until I saw Logic X

I suspect it is largely left in the market as a budget laptop for students and schools.
While 16 GB is fine for now and the foreseeable future, it is just a matter of time before that is not enough. With the change to 64-bit architecture in PT11 a lot more RAM is accessible for use in virtual instruments, etc. Don't get me wrong, the MBPR is a beast and possibly the best laptop for Protools today. Apples direction to solder the RAM onto the motherboard is probably not going to change so I might as well accept it.

16GB of current DDR3 RAM is a significant power hog and DDR4 will improve that some ready for the next size upgrade. In the timerframe of DDR4, and DDR4 SODIMM prices to fall, 32 GB to appear etc. and folks to find what to do with so much RAM on a laptop it should pretty much be time to buy another laptop. As much as I am also frustrated by the locked boxes Apple wants to sell, there is a pretty good argument for just soldering on a decent glob of current DRAM chips to each motherboard. At 8GB it was more iffy, at 16GB I think it is fine. I more wish Apple would lose the proprietary PCIe flash drive and use more standard/upgradable PCIe drive technology....that technology is changing fairly fast and just needs a few PCIe 3.0 lanes for quite a while.

No, and you can't even upgrade anything besides replace battery with a new one. However, the SSD in the new MBP's is so wicked fast you won't be needing a 2nd drive (at least that is my experience using one of those late 2013 performance monsters, but YMMV obviously).

Why not get external USB3 SSDs? I've got one and have done a read/write speed test of over 350MB per sec!!! They're small enough to slide into your pocket.

Something like this http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/USB2/OWC_Express and add your own SSD.
