Possible i5 Build for PT LE 8.0.1 / 003 Rack
Would you serious hardware guys review for any Digi-undesireables in this configuration? I would totally appreciate that.
I own a 003 Rack (Note - I have the approved Siig firewire card already). Re: Possible i5 Build for PT LE 8.0.1 / 003 Rack
While I haven't seen any i5 builds yet I would assume the are good.
But since i5 has hyper threading disabled I would recommend going for i7 860 (1156) or i7 920 (1366). For a bit more money you'll get quite a significant performance gain. Its has been a long lasting tradition to go with either Asus, Gigabyte or Intel motherboards. Just another thing to consider. Please keep us updated on your build.

Careful with those "green drives...they have a habit of hibernating whether you want them to or not...

Okay - avoid the "caviar green" - so two "caviar blue" would be fine.
And I move to the gigabyte motherboard. I'll look to see if I can move up to the i7 - and ProTools supports hyperthreading (or doesn't not support it - you know ProTools, I mean). |

PT8 does support hyperthreading. +1 for ditching the green drive. Actually, the blue is fine for system but the WD Black is even better for audio with its 32meg cache.

If you haven't checked out the "i7 builds - specs and results" thread yet you definitely should. lots of good info on setup and optimizing your system, and I'm sure there are lots of folks interested in the performance of a new Lynnfield rig. |

Another +1 on the Giga board, the Black drives, and the i7.

Make sure that approved FW PCI card you own is going to work....A lot of newer boards are showing up PCIe only. If you need a PCIe FW card ADS makes one that I have used with PT.

Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2
looks good - on board TI TSB43AB23 chip PCI for your SIIG card if you want that instead of the onboard less memory to buy as not triple channel parts binned cpus and mild overclocking will most likely get you i7 performance whilst saving a little cash. |
