IE 8 with PT's 7.4 & XP?
Hi guys,
I had to do a system restore (several times) on a HP dv 8000 series Notebook to fix some graphic driver corruption issues. In the malestrum of updates (I had to update over 60 Windows updates!!!) I updated Internet Explorer to latest (ver. 8). I'm about to install Pro Tools 7.4cs9 with DV Toolkit 2 & hopefully Waves Platinum 5.9.7 & Altiverb XL 6.3.3 (the acid test!), Sound Forge 9 had been groovy, as well as Microsoft Office, latest Quick Time, Windows MP 11 etc. What are the issues? Last time Tools wouldn't launch... is it only plug-in related? Frankly I'd like to stay on IE 8 if possible, but can wind back if absolutely necessary. Cheers, Phil J |

Re: IE 8 with PT's 7.4 & XP?
Hi Keybeeetsss, is this the consensus at the moment? Digi said to me about 3 months ago that it was only "certain plug-ins" that caused the failed launch. I can live without Altiverb on the laptop... it's just a remote/back-up record/edit system really.... I definitely need DV TK 2 though for TC etc.

Re: IE 8 with PT's 7.4 & XP?
IE 8 has proven to be a nightmare for lots of programs in ADDITION to PT, I've heard of instances where NOTHING will launch with IE8 present.
There's always Firefox..... |

We allowed I.E.8 to install on one of the XP office computers and virtually everything runs about 30% slower. I hate it.

Re: IE 8 with PT's 7.4 & XP?
Get rid of IE 8 (Internet Explorer 8)! I had the exact same problem tech described on 2 xp computers.
A) Pro Tools will begin to launch, load plug-ins and stop loading (get stuck) at structure.dpm or another plug-in file name. B) After attempting to launch the Pro Tools program, an hour glass appears for a moment then disappears. (Task Manager > Processes may show Protools.exe as a running process) I actually bought a new computer because my computer was 5 years old and started to do funky things. Auto updates installed IE8 on my new computer and the same thing happened. I found the tech alert only after installing and uninstalling several times. I even tried to restore to an earlier date. After uninstalling IE*, everything fine. |
