Default Allenstein vs Mac

Okay I know that this question is set time and time again...

So if I go next month to the Mac Store and shell out £3k for a dual 2,7 G5 with 4 or 8 Gigs of RAM, a guy with a system costing $850 will still get a better PT LE performance than me?

Have there been any Dave C tests done on Macs? How do the two compare, track count-wise?

Exactly????

PT LE is pretty much CPU based..... 1 gig is all that you really need, otherwise it is technically not being used. Bring up tack manager and start laoding plugins. Watch what gets hit first... CPU!

You can even buy an E-Machines 6811 laptop still for 825.00 that will outperform not only the new G5s, but most of the PC desktops on the market now. The mobile AMD 64 3400 is one of the best processors ever made. The fans on the G5 still need some work too as they are very loud for recording purposes.

actually you are quite incorrect. when looking for a more intimate recording experience or when needing the close interaction due to working out vocal parts, i'll track vocals in the control room with me. dual mac g5 and all. intel doc will attest to my fascination with insane amounts of compression and even at extreme's, never once has the mac been an issue. scsi drives and my old digi expansion chasis pumped more noise into the room than the g5 and all 4 of its fans.

Scott,
You must be one of the lucky ones then. Just go to Apple support website and you will find plenty of people complaining about the noise on these new G5s.
