Default DA98 TDIF to 192/SYNC IO

I want to record DA98 TDIF -> 192 TDIF
I have the DA98 clocked to BLACK
I have the SYNC IO clocked to the DA98s WordClock output

In the session setup should I choose the SYNC IO as the clock source and WordClock as the reference
OR
Should I choose the 192 TDIF as the clock source which forces LoopSync as the reference??

TIA,
jim

I would start here but I seem to remember the DA98 needing to be clocked from the word clock out of the 192.

something to do with special TDIF clock

Sync I/O clocked to black
Sync I/O is the sync source in session set up.
192 word clock out to DA98 with a Tee and a terminator on the DA98 input.
Set the 192 clock out to TDIF word clock in your hardware settings.

Thanks that makes sense I guess. I had to go ahead before I received your post, and did it as in my first option - with the DA98 clocked to black and the SYNC I/O clocked to the DA89s wordclock. I hadn't mentioned that I was locking PTs to the DA98 timecode, that probably doesn't matter, but it seemed to work fine. No clicks and pops (which accompanied my first try with both clocked to black), or drifting.

Just wondering your reasoning in having the SYNC I/O as master clock. IS it a better source . . . is it anywhere in a manual . . . is there more than one way to do this.

Thanks,
jim
