Default I need serious help!

I dont know if this is a bug or what, but when I was using protools 6.3, it would allow me to adjust the levels of an individual track while I was just monitoring, during the tracking phase. Now that I have upgraded to protools 6.4, I can no longer set the levels during tracking, it makes me record enable the track before I can set the levels. The problem with that is, I want to make sure that a track is not clipping during the tracking phase, instead of having to record enable a track and then try and set the levels, and then go back and delete what I just recorded. If anyone can help me with this problem, I would appreciate it a great deal..

Thanks
