Default \'grey screen\' edit window

Hi, and thx in advance for any help.
I've got a song file that when opened, the edit window is gray. Other weird things too. If I press the play icon on the trans window, the screen then changes to it's usual white and I can play the song but it takes a long time to start, the cursor does not move across the page, when i use buttons on the transport window they don't light and if I try to go to the top and use the menu, I have to 'pull down" to see menu options. This happened to me before and it fixed itself somehow but this song is hot and I can't wait for a divine healing. thanks everyone. My first post. Even the guys at Guitar Center couldn't help me on this one. Christine

any wierd plug ins in the session?
have you tried trashing the preferences?
are just midi/instrument tracks greyed out or are all the tracks greyed out?
have you installed any new plug ins recently?
is it a high track session running on a low buffer setting?

Hey blade It took my novice a** a long time just to figure out your suggestions but I learned a lot. The problem IS tied to a plug-in, like you said. But, if I just close/reopen the mix window, the screen again becomes "white" and active. It's tied to the dyn button, like it "sticks". Pretty lame explanation but, I'm gettin better every day! Thanks to U.
