S1 - really strange software/driver/firmware Issues

Hey community,
I've noticed two strange behaviours of my S1s.


The first is an easy fix. On each S1 there's one fader that randomely stops working. On the first S1 it's the 7th, on the second S1 its the 2nd. After turning the device(s) off and on, they are working normal again. I've noticed this happens often when auto-bank to selected track is activated, and I have foldertracks (non routing) in my session so the fader jumps from -∞ to 0. Thats annoing but not a disaster. (I also have this trouble on my Mac)



The other one is really messed up. When I try to reset a fader value to 0 by pressing Alt via soft key on the S1 and touching a fader it selects all tracks in my session and banks therefore through all of those. It does that randomly. Sometimes reseting works as expected sometime it doesn't. There is no specific channel or fader that is causing this issue.

I'm mostly in preview mode. Then logically i uncheck and check preview. again. Strangely Pro Tools then wants to write automation. so if i then press play i'll write automation staticly... even in touch/latch. I really don't get this bug and it drives me crazy. (I haven't checked if this also occours on my Mac)

Does anybody know about this problem? Is there a fix? Eddie? Help!

Select by Touch can cause unwanted things to happen. Try that first

Nice, works out fine! I Guess it selects all because of ALT+"Select (by Touch)" and then banks all layers because of "auto bank". Only weird thing is the automation taking place. But thanks, that helps a lot.


Only thing to solve is the faders that get stuck. Unchecking "select by touch" unfortunately didn't solve that one.

The units are quite new. Have had the same issue with another brand new S1 a year ago on my mac (6.1, 12C, 64GB, Catalina).

For the Faders stopping working...is it they dont move anymore, dont write moves or the touch is bad(sticky)

On each unit there is one fader (on the first S1 its fader 7 on the second its fader 2) that randomely stops moving. It still writes and it feels normal but the motor does not do anything. After power cycling it works again as expected. After a random period of time it stops again. I tried to make sens of it by creating a 16 track session with up and down automation and let it run for like 2 hours. Nothing failed there. It always happens while banking. minimum 3 times a workday, sometimes it's dozents.

A couple of things. Be careful ramping faders for hours...it can burn things out if they are too fast.
Can you do your test but make the faders jump from -60 to +6 in a stair step? See if that causes the issue. Remember not to do this for too long though 5 mins max.

One more thing to try to help us diagnose the issue. If it happens again, don't turn off. Wait 10 seconds and then see if its working again.

Valid point! Tho my test session had very gentle and slow automation curves. No harm done, the faders haven't gotten noticable warm.



I've tried this one too. Waiting is no fix unfortunately. Also closing and reopening Pro Tools does not help. Also tried disconnecting and reconnecting via EuControl without success.


I'll let you know about the test you descibed.
