Default Re: Pro Tools 2022.4 Release Notes

So nervous about this update since it requires updating Firmware, etc. I have already done it once and restarted my computer and it is asking to update again. I did so and I restarted again and I keep getting the message that my Firmware needs to update.

UPDATE: Duh! I realized I was using restart instead of shut down and letting it sit for the 5 seconds. Once I shut down and let the computer sit and then boot up, everything was great.

PT Expert seems to be suggesting that we now have to pay $999.00 a year for the same software we used to pay $399.00 for? Ultimate to Flex.
Surely this can't be true?

Doing exactly that. Thank you

Here are screen videos of a mix I recently completed without issue on 2021.3.1 , and the same mix on 2022.4 .

2021.3.1 - Smooth scrolling during playback. Session plays back with no errors. Activity monitor has pro tools using around 300% during playback. 150% in idle. (Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jxt051r5uy...ssion.mov?dl=0)

2022.4 - Session tells me cinematic rooms is causing crashes. When I disable that plugin I can finally play the session, but am unable to scroll fluidly through the session. Cursor is unresponsive. Lots of pinwheels. Can't zoom in/out without lag. Meters are super laggy. Activity monitor showing 300-350% cpu usage in idle (no playback), and more on playback. CPU runs a full 10 degree celsuis hotter. Basically unuseable. (Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rz2z152jao...ssion.mov?dl=0)

So NO new perpetual licenses after today - 26 April 2022- No chance to plan or make a business decision other than being forced into subscription model MOST UNDERHANDED AVID MOVE EVER. I have 16+ Standard and 5 Ultimate licences across 2 companies, Avid S6 / S1 / S3 /Docks and 2 x Nexis boxes that is not compatible with M1 and Pro Tools (no effort to sort it out or get back after support asked a bunch of stupid unrelated questions). (Yearly support for those 2 Nexis boxes cost 5k USD)- Heavily invested in Avid - but the subscription model just does not make any business sense to us - Will now seriously have to consider the way forward after 30 years with Pro Tools (almost to the day)- been using it since version 1.1

Good to hear. Thanks Pete.. I seem to be using my Exponential Audio Plugins less and less anyway. Mostly been using liquidsonics a lot more along with my setup here. They just had an update also April 22 2022, so that is a big deal here for us. Also another really great plugin we like here also. for audio post, Exponential is still working here, but I will be updating my OX to Monterey soon as I have been on Catalina for over a year now waiting. Phew I managed to find this statement on the PT Expert site.

Pro Tools Ultimate user with perpetual licence and current support plan - You will be automatically migrated to the current version of Pro Tools Ultimate the cost is unchanged at $399.

This is weird though because Pro Tools Ultimate no longer exists as a product.
How does this relate to PT Flex which is the version I need for HD?

Has anybody at Avid thought this through at all??

Received the avid email confirming my free upgrade to pro tools studio.

I have a nice fresh ‘Pro Tools Studio’ tab in my account which has replaced the previous ‘Pro Tools’ tab. Alas no pro tools 2022.4 download link….anywhere (checked every tab)…..

So say someone has an unregistered perpetual Ultimate license and an unregistered vanilla reinstatement plan. Are those still good to hold onto until we NEED to register them, like Avid said earlier if purchased from a third party seller they don't expire. Or is Avid going back on their word?

No NEW perpetual licenses.
You are not forced into subscription with your existing licenses.
