Default VI drum plugin control another?

I was wondering if it it was possible to say have say EZDrummer’s midi control another like MDrummer. I love EZdrummer, how simple it is to navigate and audition the midi files but I would like to hear them controlling Mdrummer and hearing its sounds instead. I know I could just load the midi files right into Mdrummer but Mdrummer is way harder to use and not nearly as functional when it comes to something like this but I really do like the variety of sounds it offers.

Have you tried dragging a midi clip from EZD onto a track with MDrummer on it?

I think if you mute all the drums in EZdrummer and set it to output midi, then assign that to an Instrument track with another drum VI, you might get what you're after(never tried it0. Having said that, check out this new offering:

I can always have the same midi track play both drum plug-ins but I was hoping to find a way to scroll through the EZdrummer browser to audition the loops since it’s so well laid out and hear how it would sound with the Mdrums before I dragged it onto a track.

If you watch the video at the link I sent, they show exactly what you want with that drum plugin. It should be the same method, just using EZdrummer instead(though based on the loops in that drum plugin, you might be just as well served)

Yeah, it did work. Thanks for sending. Unfortunately Mdrummer is way too unstable of a program to use it with. I was able to successfully have EZdrummer 2 control EZdrummer 3 as well as some Kontakt instruments but when I tried it with Mdrummer, the midi signal sounded intermittent and ultimately it would make Pro Tools crash. I tried every midi setting (and there isn't that many) in Mdrummer settings. It seems to be fine with being triggered by a midi channel but not another VI. Great sound options with Mdrummer but a horrible interface and waaaay too complicated.

Hmmm, maybe your computer is not up to the task? One way to conserve overhead is to call up EZdrummer, but right-click on each drum or cymbal and select NONE. That way, that plugin doesn't load any sounds, freeing up resources. Give it a try before you give up on it

BTW, if that works, save a preset for EZdrummer with no sounds loaded

Good suggestion but I don’t think that’s the problem. I have a new souped up iMac with 64 gigs of RAM, all solid-state hard drives and it can handle the most demanding virtual instrument sessions with full orchestration no problem. Also, I’m just doing this on a test session with just the EZdrummer and Mdrummer running. Should be a piece of cake but I’m discovering that Mdrummer is just got some overall issues. The sheer volume of drum kits and sounds it has compared to EZdrummer 3 is astounding. And the fact that you can add plug-ins in the mixer window like compression, EQ, reverb etc. on just one drum really makes it useful but they really need to slim it down and make it more user-friendly….and less buggy.
