Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
Avid has announced Magma 3T to support HDX. Has anyone tried running Accel cards that way?

Re: Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
I replied in your other post, but it case you don't see it, I'll mention it here. With a Thunderbolt chassis, not just any PCIe card will work. Each manufacturer must specifically write a software driver for the specific card to be recognized by Thunderbolt. Avid has done so for HDX and HD Native, but not the older cards. And they probably don't plan to.
They're not drivers that you download, but it's written into PT10 software. Here's another thread where someone bought it thinking it would work and it didn't: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t...ma+thunderbolt He does mention that his UAD2 card works without any drivers, but he may not realize that it may be written into the software already. |

Thanks, good info. A shame that Avid has not decided to make Accel work with Thunderbolt. I hope they will.

Re: Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
Cause they still support 10.3.3 on Accel and cause it's probably very easy?

This is true for osx With osx each pcie card must have a special "thunderbolt aware" driver which enables the card to work via a thunderbolt to pcie chassis However in windows this is not required... The windows thunderbolt support will automatically recognize any pcie card (with pcie card drivers) when it is inserted in a thunderbolt to pcie chassis.. There is no special "thunderbolt aware" driver required From the magma website " Product Update - as of December 21, 2011 Since announcing ExpressBox 3T, Magma has received many inquiries about compatibility with popular pro audio and professional video solutions, external graphics support and a variety of other interesting configurations. Guided by this input, Magma engineers have been working with key partners and solution providers to test and validate interoperability. Magma will provide updated results of this ongoing work on this website. [bleep] In general interoperability with Windows is more straightforward than interoperability with MacOS. The MacOS driver for the PCIe card must be modified/updated to be ‘Thunderbolt Aware’. No changes to drivers are required for support under Windows. [bleep] In addition to testing interoperability, we have validated full Thunderbolt performance. For example, we have benchmarked full Thunderbolt bandwidth on a Mac Book Pro using OCZ Revo 3 PCIe SSD. Windows Testing is positive with Window 7 using Boot Camp. Magma ExpressBox 3T is recognized by Windows as a PCI Express switch and the slots are configured properly. So far, no special drivers have been required for Thunderbolt compatibility with Windows 7. As a general rule, if the PCIe card works in a workstation using Windows, it will most likely work with ExpressBox 3T, using Windows. [bleep] With this said, testing of graphics cards has been limited therefore we have little to report regarding external graphics except that we are seeing better support of external graphics using Windows compared to external graphics using MacOS. Stay tuned for further updates on graphics cards. Mac OS X For MacOS, a driver modification is required from the PCIe card provider. A MacOS driver that is “Thunderbolt Aware” is required so the PCIe hardware will be recognized by MacOS through Thunderbolt™ Technology. Magma is working with a comprehensive list of 3rd Party Development Partners to pre-qualify solutions while each company works towards providing Thunderbolt Aware drivers. As Thunderbolt Aware drivers are made available we will update this list. External Graphics There is an interoperability issue with MacOS using graphics (GPU) cards externally through Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, external graphics solutions for MacOS X do not work and we do not expect a resolution from Apple in the short term. We realize that external graphics support is a feature that many users want so we’ll let you know if this changes. For the time being our recommendation may be to run Windows using Boot Camp, but this is not yet confirmed as a working solution. " Going by this I would say there will be no problems running hd cards under windows Brock |

Re: Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
Will there be a10.3.9 release with thunderbolt support for the HD Pcie accel cards? De facto still the leading studio standard.

Re: Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
We've gotta get this to happen. AVID...please advise. There are zero macintosh computers being manufactured (by Apple, that is) with PCIe slots. Why are you ignoring the foundation of your user base?

Re: Anyone running Accel cards in Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis?
Because Apple ignored their pro users. Simple.
