Default External Firewire Drive Recommendations?

Hola. I've been bad about keeping up with new products and upgrades for a while. I'm running a G4 450 and PT LE 5.1. I'm taking a pretty big project into a world class studio for mixing. They said they want the sessions on an external firewire drive.
I about two years ago, I bought an external Maxtor firewire and had nothing but trouble with it.
Does anyone out there know a good one to get that won't give me any trouble with the ancient set up that I have? At what I'm paying an hour to go in there, I really don't want to be held up by a stupid drive.
Thanks in advance.

Try OWC or Transintl external FW's. Both companies have pretty good reps around here.

Also check up on the DIGI compato docs for FireWire...you're mainly looking for a 7200RPM drive with the Oxford 911 chip-set.

Hope this helps!

a bandmate came over with a new maxtor (one of those "one touch" blue button ones) 200gb drive, i ended up running sessions straight off of it. normally i would transfer everythign to one of the internal drives, but we had no problems, 32 tracks -- mostly straight through recording, a few tracks with heavy editing.
this using quicksilver G4 dual 1ghz, digi 001, os 10.3.2 pt 6.2.2.

We have had really good luck with both the OWC drives as well as the Wiebetech FW drives.

i actually just bought a serial ata card (internal) with one of the new western digital "raptor" 10,000rpm drives, but you can also get cards with external interfaces, & put a serial ata drive in an external case.

We use a device called a Firedock, which allows exchangeable drives within a single FW enclosure. Works excellent with Protools on Mac (os9 and osx) and Windows formats.

hey, what's my best bet for copying an OS disk to a new one? disk copy, or just dragging the original hd's icon onto the new hd's?
