Default Upgrading to 16 channels of simultaneous I/O

So i have the digi 003 and am enjoying it so far, however I NEED to have more inputs than just eight. I believe it has the capability of expanding to around 16 channels using either of its digital I/O's. has anyone done this and what is a good 8 channel analog to digital pre amp? thanks,
caleb

I've used a Yamaha O1v to get the full 18 I/O on my Digi 002 (8 ADAT, 2 S/PDIF), but that may be a bit much for you. I hear great things about the Focusrite OctoPre and the PreSonus Digimax 8-channel pres. Some people have also said some really great things about the Behringer ADA8000, too.

I usually don't use them, but I have a Presonus TubePre on Ch. 5, and I may try and pick up two BlueTube DPs to cover all 4 inputs.

You could have a look at the Presonus Digimax. They're pretty decent pre's.

you can check out a focusrite ISA428 if you get the AD card it lets you plug in 4 more channels into the converter, then it converts all 8 channels (comes with 4 pres stock) and ADAT to your oo3

Both are nice, just a little different. Connect Octopre to analog inputs and DigimaxLT to ADAT, totalling 16 channels. It's good to have two different flavours of preamps; plus, Octopre has built-in dynamics control (though DigimaxLT has external insert points).

Focusrite 428 is also a very good (and expensive) recommendation. The digital option is worth it as the converters are on par with Digidesign HD hardware. If you have the money, just go for it (and while you're spending, buy a Focusrite Red1 to connect to the four extra inputs of the thing).
