Tempo map and click track
Hi
Can anyone shed some light on the use of a tempo map and click track in Pro Tools. Beginner user with a Digi 002. I write music for theatre as well as working with classical musicians. Much of the music I work with changes tempo often throughout the piece, therefore I never use a click track. But when recording parts it's difficult to get musicians to come in exactly on the beat at the start of the piece, or after a stop where a piece will regain it's tempo. Can I create a click track that follows the beat even if it speeds up or slows down, and what exactly is a "tempo map"? Is it something visual in Pro Tools that I'm missing. Any advice or assistance would be much appreciated. Gary |

Re: Tempo map and click track
Gary H,
Without going into too many details (and as I dont have 6.7 yet), A tempo map can be created using beat detective or entered into protools manually to any time signature. I saw it on demo at Turnkey in London, as if you are having to change tempo and even signature throughout the piece, it would be ideal for you. Read all about it in the whats new in 6.7 guide from the tech docs section on the website. here----> http://akwww.digidesign.com/support/..._in_LE_6.7.pdf As far as a click is concerned, the click will match the tempo map of the song. For example if your tempo map is 4/4 at 120bpm and then goes to 5/4 time at 130bpm at bar 45, the click will match this change and any other you decide to put in. neeel.

Re: Tempo map and click track
Hi
Thanks for the info. Not really interested in using Beat Detective as I already know the tempo I want for each area. I'd like to know how to create a tempo map before I begin recording. Can I not only change tempo, but speed up or down as required? How do I do this in Pro Tools? I hear people talking about tempo maps but would like a practical view on their use, and how they're created. Thanks Gary |

Re: Tempo map and click track
In 6.7 you can change the tempo by drawing in tempo changes.. or using S-curves, parabolic curves or linear changes.
Why don't you download the What's New in 6.7 PDF file. Rail
