Default Everyone OK? (2022 USA winter storm)

OT...

Hey peeps. Large parts of the USA experienced heavy snowfall and high winds over the Holidays. Just wanted to check-in to see if you're one of the folks affected by the storm, and if you're alright?

Everyone good? Everyone with a basement studio have a carbon monoxide monitor? Check your heater vents for snow blockage.

I know we're a vast international community with diverse experiences, but sometimes we simply need to check in with each other.

What is heavy snowfall in the USA? We had moderate (50cm/20in) snowfall on friday, nothing unusual and zero canceled flights.

Stay safe if the snowfall is exceptional and/or if you don't have winter tyres (or chains).

Here in Buffalo we got only around 3 feet of snow, but the high winds caused massive drifts. Due to wind patterns, it's not uncommon around here to see grass poking through in the back yard, but a 6-foot drift covering some of the windows in the front of the house. But that also means it's covering some people's 1st floor heater vents. 27 deaths so far in the area, largely due to carbon monoxide in houses or people stuck in cars that are buried in drifts. Hence why I wanted to just see how everyone's doing here.

Les français savent conduire en conditions hivernales.

Oh wow, who are people going to sue?

Seriously in here winter comes every year so air intakes are near the roof. Building air intake to ground level would be like building a shack to an island on Pacific Ring of Fire (which SFO also belongs).

This is not to brag, but in here houses are built to withstand earthquakes even though 2.0 magnitude would break the news.

Cheap things are the ones I cannot afford.

Good grief man! A little empathy could go a long way. 50 people have lost their lives to the storms here in the US. How about a little less. “Look how great we do things here” and a little more “be safe and take care of yourself".

Thanks Chris for the look out. Hope you stay safe up in Buffalo. Have some family up there knee deep in snow. Happy New Year.
