Help with 192 analog outs!
I have an HD3 system with one 192. My outputs only shows c24 MIX with what appears to be a 5.1 set-up though I only use L, R ouputs 1 and 3 which run to my C24 then to my monitors.
My question is, I want to use output 4-8 to run tracks through outboard gear then bring back into the analog in (all via a patchbay). I think it's simply a set-up issue but can't figure this out. What do I need to do so that in the PT software track section, it allows me to choose, for example, output 7 and 8 to run a stereo pair to a compressor? Then can I simply patch the out to the compressor then back in to the analog in on the 192? thanks! |

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
Do you mean the Playback engine in the software? I think that's my problem but don't know what to do to fix.
I don't think it's a hard wire issue. thanks |

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
I/O Setup -> Inserts tab. Use i.e. outputs 7-8 and inputs 7-8 to insert an outboard unit. See the Pro Tools Reference Guide (v7.4), page 774 for details.

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
Get a patchbay..... I have the standard (8) outputs on my 192I/O with a DB25 to TRS MALE snake that feeds into a patchbay. CH 1&2 are normalled out to my Presonus Central Station for monitors. CH 3-6 are normalled out to various outboard gear while 7&8 are normalled out to the drum room. BUT I can make a patch and feed into a surround system, route to a compressor, whatever. It's simple, but effective.

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
Brad, I have a patchbay (AA mini shorti) and have the 192 analog out DB25 going to it, and the analog in as well.
Right now I keep the 1 and 3 patched to the C24 in but that's it (to run my monitors from the C24). When I go to use (for example) the out 7 and 8, I can't figure out how to send a track to the 7 and 8 interface (at the output area as you would with a bus). The only options are the C24 mix 5.1 (of which I am only using the 1 and 3 outs) but that drop down wont give me a 7 and 8 or 6, 7 for that matter. And the setup i/o was so confusing to me (rookie) that I couldn't figure out what to drag/drop etc. thanks! |

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
Hi, trying to think this through without my gear neraby but here goes!
Go to the Setup>I/O Setup and you will see a page with a grid and tabs across the top saying input, output, bus, insert and, I think, preamps. You should go to each one and click the default button, this will give you 8 inputs, 8 outputs and numerous bus sends and inserts. The best thing to do then it to customise it so you would name each one corresponding to what you have them plugged into. By the sounds of it, you would also want to move some of the outputs around the grid for your monitors. In you case, output 1+2 would have to become output 1+3 for your monitors. You could then name 7+8 'Compressor' or whatever and do the same on the inputs. In your tracks on the mix window now, click the output box on the track you want to go to your compressor and you will see it labelled. Or do it in the insert section (better option, but perhaps a little confusing until you get used to it) Have a play around with that and get back to us on if it worked, if it didn't and how for you got with it and we'll do what we can to help out further. I'll go have a look on one of my systems later today and post again with more detailed info.

Re: Help with 192 analog outs!
Again? And again?
You’ve been posting questions about really basic stuff for quite a while now. A few times, someone suggested that you hire a local professional for, say, an afternoon, and help you get going. In this particular thread, Stig-R already pointed you in the right direction, a couple of posts ago, but obviously you’re either too lazy to look up the pertinent information, or you really, really, r-e-a-l-l-y need help. While just about every member of the DUC is eager to help, writing “Audio 101” and “ProTools 51.5” text books is something for which nobody here has the time… unless remunerated. And besides, if that’s what you are looking for, it’s been done dozens of times already. You keep dropping the names of high-prized gear that you purchased and yet keep demonstrating with your posts that you have a rather limited understanding of the most basic concepts involved in running ProTools. Invest a few more dollars in yourself and hire someone qualified to spank you into shape — once and for all. You richly deserve it. IHTH. Really.
