Connecting an outboard compressor to a 003 rack
Hi All,
i have a little problem that i cannot resolve and maybe somebody can give me an hand. I just received an outboard compressor is a TL Audio 5021 and i would like to send the signal from a vocal track out from the 003 to the compressor and return it back in the insert. after check the manual and Pro Tools For dummies i did not find any answer, i also tried to research on other forums and i found something similar but not exactly the answer i'm looking for. Can someone tell me how I can achieve the above? If i connect to the compressor input and route the signal from the output of the compressor to the 003 everything work fine, but i have already few vocals track and i would like to use the external compressor. I use windows XP 2 GB of Ram , 003 Rack Pro Tools 8 Thanks in advance |

Re: Connecting an outboard compressor to a 003 rack
I can see 2 ways to do it. First, set up a hardware insert(in the I/O setup window). Second, just send your vocal out any open output and return to any open input and record the compressed signal to a new track. The advantage of this scenario is; you can use the original track as a reference so you can slide the new(compressed) audio within the timeline so that it lines up with the original audio. Once you have your new audio lined up, you can disable the original to free up the voice. Any time you send audio out and back(since LE has no plugin delay compensation), it will be late in the timeline(due to conversion latency and buffer size).

Re: Connecting an outboard compressor to a 003 rack
Plug the Out of the comp into an analog in (channels 5-8 on back of 003)
Plug the In of the comp into the corresponding analog out (match with in #) In PT, open Setup, I/O, Insert Find the channel you used for running the compressor. For instance if In&Outs on 5, go to Analog 5-6, highlight, Delete path Then new path, rename TL Audio, assign mono at question mark, with pencil tool assign on channel 5 (can do same for 6 if dual channel Comp) Get back into you session, and on track you want the comp, go to the inserts and under plugins will be I/0, click your newly named plugin, and the comp should work fine. Hope this helped, I tried to make it pretty basic for you :) |
