Default Midi out of whack!

I'm using Stylus to record a drum part, by hold the keyboard note for 2 bars, which is the length of the loop. The part is then quantized. If I play the song in the middle of the drum loop, it doesn't start at the right place in the loop. I tried flattening the part, but that didn't do anything.

What do you suggest I do?

Thanks
Dean

MIdi notes only have on and off for starts and ends. When you play the note in the middle, it sends an "on" message to stylus to play the loop. There's no more timing information in any MIDI note than that.

Luckily enough Stylus has Groove Control, which among other things will solve your problem.

Use the Groove Control version of the loops. You're going to have to refer to your manual to do this, but it will solve your problem. Basically they have a version of each loop broken down into tiny subdivisions. Then you import a corresponding MIDI file that triggers these tiny subdivisions in time to your tempo grid.

Phil,

Thanks for clearing things up. When using Logic, there wasn't a problem with the timing starting at any place. I'll give Groove Control a try.

Phil,

I'm surprized they don't have a "Swing" version in GC format. Bummer.
