Default Specs Whack?

12.1-inch TFT Display
1024x768 resolution
1.33GHz PowerPC G4
512K L2 cache
256MB DDR333 SDRAM ****
60GB Ultra ATA/100 at 4600rpm ****
NVIDIA GeForce FX
Go5200 (64MB DDR)
Full size keyboard
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
FireWire 400
AirPort Extreme built-in
Mini-DVI out

These are the specs to a powerbook g4 which digidesign HAS approved. I don't understand how they approved it if it doesn't even meet their minimum requirements? 256MB when their minimum is 512MB.
60 gig hardrive at 4600 rpm when I beleive their minimun is 7200 rpm. Am I wrong about this?

Default Re: Specs Whack?

RAM can be added, and if you look more closely at the compato docs you'll see that digi doesn't approve using 4200rpm drives - they recommend you get a 7200rpm firewire drive for audio use if you're using a laptop. The approved systems are just meant as a starting point as having the processing power, motherboard configuration, and hardware configuration (things that can't easily be upgraded) that they know will work with their hardware/software. If is a model is not approved (like the cube), they're not going to support it, even if you have 512mb of RAM and a 400mhz G4 and a 7200rpm drive. But if you have a 12" 1.33mhz G4 laptop, it's gonna work great as long as you upgrade your RAM and get an external drive.

They're not going to tell you what upgrades need to made on each machine ever issued, it makes more sense to say "You're going to need at least 512mb of RAM" and if you buy a machine with 256mb, you should be smart enough to know that you're going to need another 256 at least to run their software.
