Default Since PT 6, pressing PLAY only works sometimes!

Ok...

Anyone else have this problem?

Since I upgraded to PT 6, I have to press play or space bar or the #3
a bunch of times to get the machine to roll.

Three out of four times I press those buttons, nothing happens.

This is INCREDIBLY frustrating when I'm in my performance-brain-mode
at my synth and I'm about perform the mack-daddy take and I have
to sit there pressing the button.

Now...I'm not running the fastest system in the world.
Pentium III, 933mghz, 512, Windows XP

Any suggestions here?

Thanks!

lower your DAE playback buffer to 2 and see if it helps. If you have big samples loaded from a sampler, this will slow the response time for playback. I am experimenting with more RAM and a separate audio drive to see if this helps.

I had the same thing, and I was told that if you go into setup/preferences/and operations (I believe), you need to set "record allocation" to something like 10 minutes, instead of 60 or unlimited like it defaults to. That helped quite a bit.....it didnt' get rid of it, but helped.

I have found that this problem on my 002r is related to the buffer setting. The same thing happens to me if the buffer is set to 64. I just move it up to 128 and I am fine. I would try a higher buffer setting to see if it works for you.

I also have a 933 with 512 on my home system and have the same problem as you. I have a 2.26 with a gig of ram at the studio and dont have any problems.

Sorry to report that the above suggestions
have not really helped my problem.

I have to press Play 3-4 times (sometimes) to
get the machine to start rolling.

The worst stress in this is during mixing.
After setting levels on harmonies EXACTLY how I want
them...I go to write the automation and the machine
flips to TOUCH mode...loosing all of my settings.

This is really maddening!

Is my computer just too slow for PT 6.1?
Or is this a bug in the software?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Your machine is a bit on the slow side. Using a separate hard drive for your audio files should help a lot in reducing the strain of the system searching for files.
In mixing, raise the buffer to 1024 - this also reduces a major strain.
If you have samplers going, they are very resource hungry and could fill up the page file which will slow things down a lot while get interrupt requests.

I too have this problem, running a 1 GHz PIII. I think 6.1 is just a very sluggish program compared to 5.3.1, and maybe Digi didn't test it on older computers - otherwise, they would have found that problem before they released it.
