Default Midi recording issue

I am using a HP Notebook running winXP.
I've been recording this way fine for 3 years to a mybook external HD.

However, I want to start using Reason Adapted though my PT and record midi.
I have it all set up properly and my controller is working fine.
The issue is recording.
It will not record for more then 5 seconds ever. It just seems to not register the data after like 5 sec.
It is still recording as if it was, but no sounds are recorded after the initial 5 sec. rendering my midi set up useless

winXP recording to a mybook ext HD
Recording through a mbox2 and using PT 7.0
Never had any recording issues previously with audio.

Anyone else ever have this issue?
Any setting I should look at?

Thanks.
