First of all, I'd like to say that I do understand that this feature is an experiment and that Avid is still figuring out the business model. I'm an Audio Director at a Game Developer. There is no time in the foreseeable future that the publisher we work for will allow us to put their IP up on external servers. Avid has mentioned a similar issue with some of the big Hollywood Production companies.
I would personally be completely happy to pay Avid an additional fee on each of our annual PT subscriptions to be able to host our "cloud" locally on our network. The great thing about that is they wouldn't even have to incur any significant costs or overhead from Amazon to make money from it. Also for administrative reasons we manage our PT licenses under one account. Currently there is no way to collaborate unless every PT user has there own avid account. This is not very practical in a corporate environment. The features and workflow really have some strong potential, but the aforementioned issues will prevent us from ever being able to use it. Any one else have similar issues with this new set of features?? |

I agree that Cloud Collaboration needs some time to build out, and I'm sure it will, but it also needs some time for people to get used to the idea of working in the cloud. And even at that, it is not for everyone. Do a search in the forums and you will find others that also want locally hosted storage for their own personal cloud, and it seems that Avid is looking into that. At the same time, I've heard of some major producers that are embracing the platform and are currently using it.
There have also been a few requests for a single account, and again, Avid has said that they are looking into it. It seems that Avid is quite committed to the Cloud, so hang in there and post your thoughts on Idea Scale. The more people that want them, the more chance it has of becoming reality. |

9 years on from my original post. Any new thoughts or updates on this?
I like the idea of collaborating on a local team this way from a software perspective but don't want to send everything up to the cloud and the costs and IP security issues associated with that. Cheers Chad |

Hi everyone. I know this is probably the wrong thread but I have posted on many, but because I'm new, my posts don't even show up. Basically my PT2018 keeps crashing on startup.
Please see my below laptop specs and Sandra report is avail if you need. I also have 458GB free storage on my C Drive. I've had zero trouble running ProTools 18.3 on this laptop for years, even though the Avid compatibility chart doesn’t say windows 11. Anyway, I hadn't used ProTools for 3-4 weeks, and now when I try use it, it keeps crashing on startup. I've tried the following and it still crashes: 1. Trashing Preferences 2. Deleting and moving all plugins: UAD, VST and AAX 3. Using a focusrite interface then trying a UAD interface, and then none at all (so it would default to the Asio4All driver) 4. Deleting McAfee completely and reinstalling interface drivers (suggested by focusrite help) 5. Updating my windows laptop OS whenever it prompts me to 6. Holding shift, or N or Z when opening ProTools App or a ProTools session 7. Deleting and reinstalling ProTools (pic attached) Please help! Garrett Windows Laptop Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz 1.69 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points |
