Hi all,
Silly question here but I'm losing my mind a bit and need some help. My offline bounce speed is averaging at 4.5x. This seems incredibly slow to me when I've just setup a mac pro (2019) with 16 cores and 96GB RAM. I'm running an HD Native Thunderbolt setup and Big Sur. I've tried all types of different cache sizes and buffer sizes, big mix sessions with tonnes off tracks and plugs, and tiny sessions with few tracks and it only really gets up to 10x on a small session.. just doesn't feel right. Any advice on optimising offline bounce would be much appreciated.

What plugins are you running?
It all comes down to plugins. For example, I can have the exact same session open and go from a 60x bounce speed to 4x bounce speed just by inserting something like Soothe with all the over sampling and extreme settings. It really all comes down to what plugins are inserted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

4.5X doesn't seem too bad to me. My average sessions offline bounce around 3.9X. Yes the plugins will largely determine the speed as well as the length of the song. I would imagine an old spinner HD would slow it down too.

+ on the Plug Ins. If I use Sir Audio Tools Standard Clip oversampling @X256 on offline bounce then it's definitely slowed down, as in slower than realtime. Some plug ins oversample, but probably not to the degree that I have SAT set for. Soothe for instance goes up to X4 on the oversampling same with SSL's Bus Compressor V2. Linear Phase EQ typically oversamples. UAD plug ins are slower for offline bounce too. These all add up to slow down the offline bounce. Definitely commit if possible.

Do UAD plugins even work at faster than realtime?

Disabling loudness metering like iZotope Insight2 or Nugen VisLM makes a big difference in my experience.

Yes, but even a couple radically start to slow things down and you can quickly wind up with 0.8-0.9x offline bounce times.

I find speed is all plugin related.
However, unless it's just a junk rough mix, I always use real time bounce. With music, I would never hand a client a mix I haven't listened to at least once. But that's just me. ![]()
