Protools \"taking a hit\" from bg apps
I have noticed that Pro Tools takes a performance hit from some apps that might be in the background. I've noticed this for years with Filemaker - but in the past, even apps like Simpletext have affected PT performance.
Filemaker is the prime concern for me, though. Is this problem- a) A Filemaker coding problem? b) Mac OS problem or lack of pre-emptive multitasking? c) A Pro Tools coding problem? This is driving me nuts now, because we are using mTools, which means Filemaker. Things I have noticed in particular are screen redraws are jerky, machine control is jerky, and PT takes much longer to lock to smpte (video) when Filemaker is open. Anyone else? I've heard that Digital Performer does NOT take a hit with FM pro in the bg. Which would *suggest* that the problem lies with Pro Tools... DC |

Re: Protools \"taking a hit\" from bg apps
I get similar stuff when I run the Sound Ideas sfx library app. It's filemaker. Also convenient, but usually causes problems like u said, or crashes.
