Upgrading
Hello
I have a perpetual license to run the 2018.4 Protools.. I'm wondering if there are any updates I can buy that are perpetual, or is everything I can do to get to the current version on monthly/yearly pay programs? Thanks |

Quote:
You can purchase an annual update/support plan from Avid or any authorized reseller and that plan will provide the latest updates for the coming year, provide a year of access to customer support, and a year of activation of the subscription plugins included with whatever version of Pro Tools you have (mostly the Avid Complete Plugin Bundle plugins). Annual update/support plans now act both like an annual update/support plan renewal as well as a reinstatement for lapsed plans (that used to be a separate more expensive option, or not available at all depending on which way the wind was blowing at Avid HQ--it is at much better now). Make sure you purchase the correct annual update/support plan for the version of Pro Tools (Studio, Ultimate) you have. If in doubt do this by talking to a sales rep at an authorized reseller like Vintage King or Sweetwater. If you do not renew that update/support plan when it lapses one year in the future you get to keep using the updated Pro Tools version but the subscription plugins will stop working, just like they won't be working now (unless you have separate plugin licenses). You can then renew again whenever you want, or just keep doing this annually if you get benefit from it. You are likely better off doing that, than moving to a subscription which would not make use of your current perpetual license. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 06-09-2024 at 08:38 PM. |

Re: Upgrading
One more thing; I suggest you buy from a dealer as opposed to buying directly from Avid. The price doesn't change and you can often get better help with buying the right option, and you may get better after-sale help(nothing against Avid, but their support resources can get stretched). I'm thinking about the bigger retailers like Sweetwater, Dale Pro Audio, Alto Music, etc.
