Default copy & pasting from 3/4 to 4/4

when i copy and paste my midi bassline within the same song, going to verse 1 (3/4) to verse 2 (4/4) pro tools doesn't "stretch" the copied midi notes correctly.
it simply inputs the same midi as it was in 3/4.

hope this'll work..
example:

3/4 = !_!_!
midi= ._._.

4/4 = !_!_!_!
midi= .__.__.

isn't there a smart way (shortcut or something under "midi events") that'll allow me to copy and paste 3/4 midi notes into a 4/4 passage and have it "sync" up to each 4th note instead of what seemingly looks like a "direct copy" of the 3/4 notes.

hope this makes sense.

btw - i'm new here.
long time lurker
great forum guys! lots of great help.

You can't, 3/4 is 3 beats to the Bar and the beat value is Crotchets. 4/4 is 4 beats to the Bar and the beat value is Crotchets. You must add one beat manually to complete the Time Signature of 4/4.

You can use the TCE trim tool in grid mode (1/4 value) to expand a 3/4 MIDI region into a 4/4 region. Use the TCE trim tool to drag the end of the region exactly one quarter note longer.

TCE means Time Compression/Expansion...just in case you didn't know.

hmm i just tried it.
and it doesn't work.

what i see when i try the TCE tool in grid mode, is simply what is normally done when just stretching the note(s) out.
it's not what i'm looking for.

it's not the length of the midi notes (going from 3/4 to 4/4), that's an easy task.
the annoying thing is, when going from 3/4 to 4/4, the attack/start of the notes are now (in 4/4)
on 1 + 2,5 + 4
instead of 1 + 3 + 4
it's just a real annoyance.

but your idea doesn't work.

i use PT 7.1.3 btw.
if that makes any difference.

Are you time expanding the 3/4 region by one quarter note? Cause that shouldn't just lengthen the notes, it should also make that sequence play slower.

My idea works alright, but I may have misunderstood what it is you want to do?

will it make the midi notes play slower?
are you sure?
it sounds kinda fishy to me

i understand that it does so on audiofiles.
but midi?

i'll take a screenshot of it later tomorrow.

thanks for your help so far though.

It will play slower in the sense that the same notes are being time expanded one quarter note longer, so the note length and note start time will change.

An example:

If you have a two bar MIDI region and time compress this down to one bar, the region will play twice as fast. If you on the other hand time expand the region to be four bars, the region will now play at half the speed of the original two bar region.

Follow me? Try for yourself on some regions to get a feel for how this works.

so you're saying (if the 2 notes in the 2 bar section are selected), the TCE actually moves the second note back and makes it half it's length?
while keeping the first note in it's place (on the ONE in the first bar)?
and maing them both half their length?

that doesn't work here.

perhaps i'm missing something.
or i've got something turned off. preferences possibly?

No need to select any notes. You use the TCE trim tool to trim the region.

Are you in region view on the MIDI track?

Are you sure you're using the TCE trim tool?
