hey everyone, especially Mykhal C and Sunburst, I have my new machine running, still waiting on the Corsair HX620 power supply, but my case came with a power supply it was not supposed to so I have put it together and it works!!!! I have never done this before so I am thrilled it did not blow up when I hit the power for the first time!!!

here is my Dverb results for posting:

Paulreed - 334 D-verbs on a Q9650, Asus P5Q Deluxe P45, 4 gigs 1066 corsair dominator RAM, Scythe Ninja2 cooler, two Asus EAH 3450 ATI fanless video cards for 3 monitors, Istar 400 series Quiet case, Three W.D. 3200KSRTL sata drives, sony DRU-865S lightscribe sata DVD drive, 2 noctua NF-R8 80mm fans in the back and one noctua NF-S12 120 mm pulling from the ninja heatsink. Pro Tools 7.4 C.S.8, Waves Platnium, Auto Tune 5 and Evo, Reason 4, Sony's Acid 6.

I have a question about motherboard temp, it seems to be running about 10C hotter than my cpu, is this ok? I have bought both a Carillon and a Spectral pc in the past and never paid attention to temps. what are good temps for the cpu and motherboard???

Just another note, the noctua fans are so quiet, the only thing I can hear, as far as I can tell, is the Istar power supply chugging along, I assume the Corsair will be much quieter when it arrives.

I can now do my sessions with enough power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats on your new build!! and great DVERB results!!! gotta see if i can add a few more of the more recent builds to page 1. there 'seems' to be a line limit on an individual post.

anyway...temps...my answer is, it all depends. my mobo temp is around 30 - 36c dependin' on the load. if you've got some of your settings on 'auto' then that can have an impact. i dialed in my cpu, dram, NB, and SB voltages with the intent to lower my temps. and it does. and of course, case selection matters a lot too. just check your specs for your mobo and make sure your temps stay within their parameters.

EDIT: just re-read your post. 2 video cards will heat up any mobo!!! that's probably your main source.

Once you ditch the IStar PSU you will find that its a very quiet unit. I get a lot of "Is that on?" remarks. The 334 Dverb is nice. (I'm sitting on a Q9550 -I really need to drop that in) What are you showing for available memory in the system information tab and how large are the cards memory?

The motherbord temp sensers seem to vary wildly in accuracy. I think mine is registering about 10,000 degrees kelvin but its been doing so for a year or two and the chipset coolers are cool to the touch. I gave my chipset cooler a blast of component cooler and the temp never wavered even though there was frost on it. As long as the heatsink is cool I dont think I would worry about it.

Actually I would think way more than that if the original test was run with a USB interface. More like 475 with FW. The delta is pretty big between the 2.

Anyone running Pro Tools 8.0 Le with a new Intel i7 processors? Is it really that good?

I'm thinking about getting new parts/building a new PC so I can run Pro Tools 8 much better with my Mbox 2 PRO. Building the a new i7 PC i would probably put these components together:

Asus P6T DELUXE X58 Socket 1366 ATX Motherboard
Corsair 3GB (3x1GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Dominator Memory CL8(8-8-8--24)
Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Socket 1366 8MB Cache
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium -SP1- 32-bit

My PC at the moment:

P5N32-E Sli Plus 650i
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz
Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 2*1GB 800Mhz RAM
1TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD
Zotac 9600GT 512MB DDR3 GPU
700W PSU
Windows XP Pro SP3

Quad Core is always better that C2D! By the way Q6600. What about that processor? Its only like £140 and I dont have to buy a whole new motherboard because of the Socket 1366. What are the results anyone have that one??

Does anyone see anything wrong with this parts list?

Any compatibility issues?

Asus P5Q Pro

Intel Kentsfield Q6600

Corsair XMS 1066 4gb

Sapphire Radeon HD 4870

Enermax Modus82

Let me know if something doesn't look right.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this stuff soon.

I have everything else I need already.

Thanks in advance.
