It was built from scratch. I strongly prefer the S-1 and Eucon over the Icon.
I mixed a lot of Films, Streaming and TV shows on the Icon but this set up now is miles better!
The Chairs are actually Herman Miller BEFORE the Aeron chairs. They are much more comfortable. They are pretty rare but they fit like a glove!
I’m Considering dumping my s6 and going s1 to like you.. adapt to the modern
Market but I feel like it’s such a step down. I’ve yet to work on a s1 though so unsure.

I'm still on Icon and wondering wether I should go the S1 route or the (used) S6 one when the update will be necessary. I understand a lot can be done with the control app, the surfaces and the dock. My biggest concern is about fader quality. I've never worked on an S1 though. Any thoughts will be appreciated...

I don't want to derail Marti's thread but - It really depends how picky you are. S6 has the best faders ever of any Avid/Digi surface IMO. S4 and S1 are a noticeable step down (I think they use the same?)

But they are perfectly usable and seem to be holding up well on the hardware side. I'd choose S6 every time if money were no object but when is that the case...

From my personal experiences, I use an S1/Dock ecosystem in my personal studio, and then when I'm mixing on the stage it's mostly S6's these days, so I'm plenty familiar with both. I love the S6, and it does have smooth faders and more functionality, but the gulf of cost difference is far FAR more enormous than the feature differences. If I were building out a stage like Marti's I'd do the same thing he is doing.

I do also want to commend Avid for patterning their high cost and their low cost surfaces similarly to each other, if you're familiar with one it really is easy to switch over to the other and get used to it quickly. I love the S6 but it's hard to justify the cost when you have a huge amount of functionality in the S1+dock+iPad range. Honestly the main thing I miss the most are the M40 scrolling waveform screens.
