digi 003 at 96 to mini at 44 ?
question for the experts,,me being a novice at working anywhere else but my home confines. Decided to get a second computer. A laptop so i can go out in the world to work on stuff, like in my car, coffee shop etc... Outside of my cave. My question is,, some of the session i have been working on are at 96/24 using digi 003 with one desktop computer. a friend let me use his micro mini to try out. The thing is i have to convert all those sessions to 44 (for the laptop) then back again for my desktop. Is all this converting going on not a good thing?, will it effect the quality. You read about allot of the pros using laptops to work on stuff outside of there studios, so assume (if they are using pro tools at 96 or 128) they must be doing the same.....I could get the mbox pro with firewire(had 96)but i rather not go their dollar wise, yet...any advice....is their a way to go about this..
also,,everytime i go back and forth thier is a pop up screen saying the i/o changed, i assume that is not a big deal. these are my specs desktop windows xp pro digi 003 PTLE 8 Laptop windows vista (waiting for win 7 compat) PTLE 8

Re: digi 003 at 96 to mini at 44 ?
Most of us just work at 44.1 or 48K all the time. I would not worry so much about one conversion(dropping from 96K down), but I would not convert again if I could help it. I also would drop a 96K session to 48K(if I had a choice) as the conversion math is simpler and(in theory anyway) net fewer errors. I've been on PT for 5 years now and have never gone higher than 48K.

Re: digi 003 at 96 to mini at 44 ?
Depends on if you might want to record while you're working mobile on your laptop. The Micro has no inputs at all. The mini has a mic and a line in so you COULD record something in the field. With any of those choices, you will get a new PT8 disk that you could sell before you register it(makes it easy for the new owner). Selling the software will recoup some of the cost of buying the interface.
