Unhappy Extensive 9092 errors after upgrading system.

First things first, hello to all! I've been reading these forums for hours trying to sort out my issues to no avail.... hopefully you wont mind if i try to pick some of your brains on this!

I used to run a P4 hyperthreading processor on XP SP2 on a Dell motherboard, unfortunately I have no idea which chipset it ran . Aside from the chip and the mobo I have not changed a thing in my upgrades.

I ordered the Intel 'Bearlake' Q6600 quad core processor as I'd seen and heard great reviews for performance and the price was right for me. The new motherboard was bought to match the processor, it's an ASUS P5K PRO model running the Intel P31/P35 chipset. After the install a fresh format was made on a new Maxtor 160Gb HD and XP SP2 installed which was then updated to SP3.

If a PC Wizard System scan would help please let me know and I'll post one up ASAP.

After installing PT LE 7.4 I began encountering problems. I use an MBox 2 Pro connected by firewire. I'm not 100% sure of the details on the Firewire card I'm using, but it's exactly the same as the one used in the previous build where PT worked perfectly. Besides, these problems occur whether I connect the Mbox to the PCI firewire card or the Firewire ports on the case connected direct to the mobo.

I am constantly getting 9092 'The OS held off interrupts for too long, try increasing the hardware buffer size in the playback engine' messages. These occur whenever I try to play or record anything at all, even a single mono audio track. In essence, PT is completely unusable.

The Mbox works fine as an interface for Cubase SX3, however I bought it to use PT obviously so I'd like to get a fix

In reading these posts and the support forum I have tried a few things, all have had no effect at all -

- Disabling all speedstepping on the processor.
- Using task manager to make pro tools run on a single core using the 'affinity' menu. No combination of any of the four cores helps at all.
- Changing and experimenting with every option in the playback engine. No matter what buffer size, CPU threshold or amount of cores I have selected I still get the same 9092 message every time i try to do anything.

Finally, I tried installing the dual core hotfix from Microsoft. However, as SP3 has been installed the hotfix said it didn't need to be applied.

If anyone has any suggestions or answers to this problem I would greatly appreciate it! I'm trying to finish my degree and PT is pretty essential to a few of the modules.

Thanks in advance and apologies for making my first post a long and boring one, I promise to be a bit more upbeat next time!

Update the PACE drivers as well. Then maybe see if you need updated drivers for any of your other things like video card or even the firewire card Fresh drivers are usually a good idea any time. What drive are you recording to? If its an internal drive, is it formatted as BASIC? Maybe double-check all the usual setup tweaks as well.

Thanks for the response Albee

I've updated the PACE drivers, although I don't use an iLock it was worth a try! I've also updated every other driver relating to PT I could find including firewire and the Mbox2 Pro but it still wont play ball.

I found another thread saying occasionally PCi express cards can cause latency spikes with a link to a program called DPC latency. I downloaded that and checked all my drives.... theres not a single latency bar above the green level. Highest i got was around 400ms.

To try and avoid the graphics card issues I uninstalled all my graphics drivers and rebooted the PC. Pro Tools still gives me a 9092 whenever I try to playback or record anything.

I've also reformatted my Audio drive but to no avail.

The frustrating thing is that it worked on my old P4 chip, and I bought the Q6600 to try and get a bit more 'oomph' out of PT

Quick update, Have also tried using an old ATI GPU card, to no effect.

To test things out I put my old system back together, only differences being the Q6600 and the ASUS P5K PRO motherboard. PT worked like a charm. Not really too happy about having a quad core and a nice mobo lying around doing nothing though :S

Is anybody else using the same mobo at all? Or something close perhaps? Your input would be greatly appreciated!

A good place to look would be shared interrupts. Make sure your firewire device is not sharing an interrupt with anything else. In my case, the default config was sharing with the ethernet controller and raising heck. Luckily my Asus had two ethernet ports so I disabled the one I was on and used the other. Cleared it right up.

This would especially fit on a new build. It's very likely to be different than your old board, thus the reason why things worked fine on the old one.

Ahh sounds like a good thing to look at netnoggin!

Sorry to ask/sound like a nub.... but any chance you could pop a quick post up of how to check if they are sharing an interrupt?

Theres 2 F/w, 1 ethernet connector which is unused as I have a wireless card installed and 7 USB ports all connected to the mobo.

I can pop parts together and fiddle around with stuff, but I've never had to delve this far in for one program... PT is a fickle and picky beast!

Thanks again all!

PACE drivers have nothing to do with an iLok, they're part of the piracy protection in Pro Tools. Yes iLoks are for the same thing, but different driver and process.

You may want to try disabling that wireless card, they can cause issues with PT. See the General Troubleshooting thread and maybe, after trying everything there, like after upgrading anything to do with PT, trashing your Preferences and Databases and rebooting, you could post a Sandra or PC Wizard report if you're still having problems.

Cheers,

Default Re: Extensive 9092 errors after upgrading system.

Thanks again for all your help guys, I'm afraid I'm still having problems.

I've tried all the tweaking tips, been through my devices one by one and still no improvement. The strange thing is that if I set the Mbox2 Pro as my primary driver for windows I can play music through itunes, movies etc through vlc and pretty much any streaming content on the internet with no audio problems at all.

However, using any program that uses real time audio such as amplitube, cubase SX3 etc gives pops and clicks that are unbearable and impossible to work with. I'm still getting 9092 errors everytime I do anything in protools too

The firewire onboard my motherboard is VIA OCHI, as is the PCI firewire card I have installed. I'm looking at ordering a Texas Instruments chipset card, but I first need to determine whether that would fix the problem or whether its another piece of hardware. The likely suspect would be the motherboard. I've used the VIA PCI card on my previous build with no problems, but I'm aware that different hardware interacts completely differently. I've found that my firewire interface shares IRQ's with several other components. A mainboard and a buses and drivers SANDRA report is posted up in the nest two posts.

I've never played around with IRQ's before so if anyone sees anything that could be causing problems I'd love to know!

Thank you all for you time so far, its very much appreciated!
