Then in the bass management "routing" section in the monitor profile, you effectively define the "function" of each sub by routing. Each sub can be used as either "LFE only", "bass managed sub only" or "combined LFE + bass managed sub". You can also route each satellite channel to different subs, so you can for example have one sub which handles bass management for the ceiling speakers, another sub for the left side and yet another for the right side.
Thanks for this. My only question now is finding the bass management "routing"section in the monitor profile. Can't seem to find where to define the function of each sub by routing.

Edit - are you talking about the "Level 1 Sub" and "Level 2 Sub" (in my case) where I can essentially adjust how much of each speakers I want being send to each sub?

Correct . If you do not want a given speaker to feed a sub, then make sure you delete the value so it is left blank.

In this example I am sending all Left speakers to Sub 1 and all Right speakers to Sub 2. Center channel goes to both subs.

Is there a way to use bass management and lfe with only one actual sub?
I have set up a custom group format (5.2) but cannot figure out how to route the separate signals (bm + lfe) to the respective "channels" and then back to one actual Loudspeaker
We're using a MTRX Studio and feed the line outputs 3 to 8 in smpte channel layout.

Yes, make sure you have added a Bass Management Preset to your output set:
Settings > Monitor Profile > Right Click on the output set in question and choose Bass Management Preset.

Now you can adjust the contributions for the managed speakers as well as the discrete LFEs. -> Level Sub 1 (dB)

Check out page 104 in here for additional clarity:

Thank you - but I still seem to miss something. Wouldn't I have to assign both lfe 1 and 2 to Line 4 (in my setup) to have the "mixed" signal on my single sub speaker? That's the point where I am stuck...

If you set up a custom group format as you specified then you are planning on using 2 discrete subs - for any combination of LFE and bass management. Don't use the .2 custom group if you intend to simply feed both subs from a single analog output in the monitor profile.
