Default Alternative To Ethernet Connection

Hey Avid,

Good afternoon. How are you? Hope all is well. Pro Tools Carbon has been my best investment. I use it for everything. You can hear my material and listen to how much depth effects and plug ins cover in my work, from the music production to the vocal engineering. I also enjoy streaming video games. I’m curious to know, if there are any options for me to be able to connect my iMac directly to my modem while also having my Pro Tools Carbon ready to go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My stream’s quality has been significantly reduced by using WiFi connection.

Thanks,

Rey

You can connect many different Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapters to your iMac and then use that as a separate wired Ethernet network to your Cable modem/router. No need to do anything above Gigabit Ethernet to typical Modems so these are low cost...

Options range from the the Apple adapter https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Thunder.../dp/B011K4RKFW

To Ethernet adapters built into Thunderbolt docks and expansion bays like here: https://www.owcdigital.com/products/...3-dock-14-port

(I have the Apple adapter and an older version of the OWC dock, they work great when I need a wired Ethernet connection)

Keep the Carbon on the iMac's built in Ethernet port. And if you don't need the WiFi I'd disable it on the iMac after adding the wired Ethernet.

I am just getting back into Pro Tools (sold my UAD system) and picking up my Carbon system on Sunday. Can't wait!

I got one of the Sonnet connectors for my unit. It's a bit pricier but I wanted a direct unit for my new Mac Studio when it arrives as I use the Ethernet for my web connections.

Excited about this as it is my first time back to PT in many years.

That’s just silly. You could have just bought a $30 USB-C to Ethernet adapter to connect to your router and use the build in Ethernet for the Carbon

Of course I knew this...but....They included it with the deal. I wasn't going to say no to it. LOL!
